I designed a String Pipe toy and put it on Thingiverse.

Made a 3d animation.

The curve part was "chua's circuit" like a few pages ago, implemented in python and hit with a rabid weasel until it fit in that hourglass thing.

I've been building a new screwthread-profile generator for openscad:

And things are going well after a few hitches. It's not ready yet though. It's working, but not "perfect". I want to go a step beyond what others have done or what point having it?

Which has meant printing hordes of little calibration objects 5-at-a-time to measure and correct. And you know what's annoying? Losing track of which is which. And you what else is annoying? Printing teeny tiny numbers on them. Because they never turn out. 5, 6, 8, and 9 especially are impossible to print small and still tell apart. So I invented a variety of moonspeak to print instead.

From left to right is blank, cube, sad maraca, mallet, gun, happy maraca, stealth bomber, [s]staplegun[/s] boot, drone, and half-eaten-cookie. Approval by the UTF8 emoji committee has been held up by legalese.

Seriously though, they print legibly down to 7mm. With these, a touch of sharpie, and notches along the edge, I can tell which calibration objects are which. They're a lot more radially unique than regular numbers also, you can't mistake a 9 for a 6. Not even a 5 for a 2, being they're mirrored.

So, this is why I needed moonspeak. I've been calibrating like a madman.

The efforts weren't in vain. I've written a new openscad library for generating screw threads (also on my site) and I hope it's awesome.

Garden hose, tapered and straight pipe, coax connector, broom connector, several kinds of leadscrew, imperial and metric nuts & bolts and any other random piece of junk with threads on it which wasn't nailed down -- everything I've generated to fit them finally works.

I understand there's quite a few libraries for this already, which is why I worked so long on this, I felt compelled to polish it as much as I could. I've made it fast, flexible, robust, to-the-spec, and included uncommon features. Usually you get to pick two.

It can calculate tapered pipe threads which aren't approximated. Also, buttress threads. :beavis:

It can make leadscrews which fit without being hilariously over/under-size.

It can make trapezoidal leadscrews subtracted from mirrored trapezoidal leadscrews at 15,000 vertexes on the crappiest computer I could find because fuck CPU's.

Sorry for rapid-posting, these things come in waves I guess.

I don't know what this tiny strange quick-release plate is. I can't find anything like it anywhere on the internet and ended up having to print one.

I designed this circuit and wrote some code for the teeny microcontroller. It's to go on-board a model plane so that a control system that's been obsolete for about fifty years can be used again for nostalgia and fun. I shall get the PCBs made next week.

But now that it's no longer tiny, how will you fit it in the plane?

Here's what the PCBs should look like (without the connector headers fitted). Board is 35x15 mm. I shall wait a couple of days to see if I can spot any errors before I get the first batch of PCBs made.
