Default Stacked microscope photos.

I'm waiting for a couple of hours for my bug galls to soak in 30% alcohol, and boy how I've wasted my time.

I was trying to make a decent radiolarian picture for an avatar. This looks like a viable candidate:

The above is a stacked image, and while radiolarians look best when they have some sense of depth, stacking them is hard.

Then I had a lovely awful idea: Animated GIF.

I have dozens of these stacked images. I've gone a bit batty:

lily pollen

ostracod

Hydrodictyon

What do you think? Interesting?

They're mesmerizing. :hypno2: I like the ostracod best with the lily pollen (soft!) as a close second. The radiolarian suffers more from the resizing, I think. The big stacked picture is gorgeous, but there isn't enough small detail contrast for it to work as well in an animated avatar.

Agreed. I think more tweaks will be necessary, too. They seem to be moving too fast.

One last try for the radiolarian animation. Converted it to monochrome, jammed up the contrast and cropped it closer.

Much, much better. I miss the lovely lilac hue, though.

You should consider taking twice as many needed for the stacking just to get a smoother transition. The Animated gifs are quite cool.

The radiolarian images are one step apart on the fine tuning knob. I can do 1/2 steps with a bit more effort. In my experience stacking images, more doesn't always help.

Here's one that wasn't very interesting as a stack, but turned out pretty cool as an animation:
