Only if you count being arrested at protests as a form of self-guided study. ;)

I'm actually studying biophysics.

Congrats, wildernesse.

novowels, it hurts like a sonofabitch. I've had two out. One came 'easily', and by that I mean within twenty minutes of jiggling. It still hurt for a few days afterwards. The other one....well....the other one. The dentist broke the tooth in my gum. In that one sentence I summarise a quarter hour of hammer and chisel work that left my jaw feeling like Lennox Lewis had punched me.

That was the beginning. He then had to get the three pieces of tooth out. That took another quarter hour of yanking. At one stage I had this dentist kneeling astride me on the fricking chair pulling with all his might. It hurt, okay? it just flicking hurt.

But I'm sure yours will be smooth as. :yup:

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at age 25 by a dentist my brothers called "The East German Dentist". At the time I was working 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. I took off at 9:00 AM for the dental appointment, had all four wisdom teeth pulled. One was so difficult the dentist put his knee on my chest and arm for leverage. I was on the happy gas so I didn't care. I went home, ate a tuna salad sandwich and went back to work at 12:00 Noon. I'm becoming convinced that I don't feel pain like other people do. Take my bum ankle for example, you know it should be hurting like a mother when a foot and ankle specialists says "It's a wonder you can walk." It does hurt, but not so bad I can't walk on it, at least most of the time. Likewise, the wisdom tooth extraction hurt, but not more than a few aspirin couldn't knock down. By the way, little pieces of bone and/or tooth worked their way out of one lower tooth socket for years.

I've decided at this late stage of my life to enter medicine. Can't wait for my first disection :surgeon: Hopefully will be starting next year.

ETA: Dingfod, you must be a freak :yup: Mine hurt, and I thought I had a high threshold for pain.

Somewhat more excitingly, my PhD begins on Monday. :wriggle:

I have so much cosmology and particle phyiscs to learn it's unreal, and it's looking like it'll be great fun.
Thank you, and congrats yourself! If you have a degree in physics, then you already know much more about cosmology and particle physics than I do.

Ideally, an institution that values research in pure mathematics and that has a math PhD program. I'm in the middle of final touches on the job application materials (well, final touches up to modifications for particular institutions...), and there are about 20 ads that intrigue me, so far.
