Damn fucking straight man! Why do those Senators get to jet around and campaign, not attend their Senate duties ... and get paid for it?

If I did that at my job, I'd get written up for being AWOL.

I'd agree with you, but I've been to three interviews for another position while on company time this week, so that would make me a big fat hypocrite.

This is certainly nothing new. Aren't most Presidential hopefuls, in any given election, either in Congress or Governors or something?

You're right, it's not. And it pisses me off every friggin time. It's the same old bullshit, "Do as I say, not as I do." Any other government employee who tried this would be told to get approval to use annual leave and once they ran out of that, they'd have to go without pay. Eventually, they'd get fired.

A mix of both usually.

Considering whom we're talking about, we're dollars ahead for sure. ;)

As much as it pains me to admit this, I have to agree with yguy on this one. I would, however, suggest that this be extended to all Senators, Representatives, members of the Administration and Supreme Court Justices. I am thinking we should probably take a hint from the farm program and pay them to not show up for work. The world would probably be a safer and saner place.

While campaigning during the Civil War General Rutherford Hayes was nominated for the U.S. House of Representatives. Hayes refused to return to campaign, stating that "an officer fit for duty who at this crisis would abandon his post to electioneer for a seat in Congress ought to be scalped."

Then again, General is a more important job than Senator, doubtless.

It'd be even better if the dimwits currently in the office were out campaigning...but that wouldn't do McCain a damned bit of good, despite his hanging all over Dumya like a craven sycophant.
