Default Any ideas for Asian pears?

Not being a big fruit eater, I was a little at a loss when some folks dropped by with a HUGE bag of Asian pears. I gave most of them away, but still have a pile left. Tried making a mostly apple/pear crisp kind of thing. They almost don't taste like sand compared to regular pears. Encouraging. Pear pie? For some reason I have a feeling they might make a dandy little wine, but I am not going to mess with that. Maybe I can find yet another pearaholic to give them to...

In Asia, they generally poach or bake them with sweet things in the middle.

Poach them! It's an easy one-pot dealie, and they'll keep in the fridge for a few days.

Scarlet Poached Pears2 cups sweet dessert wine, preferable a Muscat
1 medium red beet, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
3 small firm-ripe pears, peeled, halved lengthwise and cored

Bring wine, beet, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and bay leaf to a boil in a smallish saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved.

Add pears and simmer, turning occasionally, until pears are tender and liquid is syrupy, about 35 minutes. Transfer pears to a bowl. Discard cinnamon stick and bay leaf and pour syrup over pears. Cool completely in syrup, about 30 minutes.

If you refrigerate it once it's cool, be sure to bring it back to room temp before serving.

Thank you for the ideas...chicken and pear sounds good. Pork loin? "The other white meat"? Hmmm...time for a look see in the pantry and fridge.
Except for sugar and honey, the only sweet thing I have on hand is a Snickers bar. Naw, that doesn't sound right at all!

Diced up in a salad usually works for me, the crunchiness becomes a plus.

Oh shit! Was that Restaurant Wars? It's on my DVR. I got busy doing laundry and bills, and didn't even watch Glee till almost midnight. Is it time to go home yet?
