In case this hasn't been posted anywhere yet:
Missouri Republican claims "legitimate" rape rarely results in pregnancy.
Republicans, party of psychos and clowns. How scary is it that about half the country consistently votes for these people?

Just now read the whole article that I linked.
This guy sits on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.
Just try to wrap your mind around that. And around what a shell of its former self this nation has become.

Why are Republicans desecrating Christian holy sites with their shameful nudity?

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
Drudge, the "news" site for total morons, has a so-far unlinked line that Aiken is withdrawing from the Missouri race.
Note that the Rethuglicans scrambling like chickens with their heads cut off to disavow what Aiken said don't really think he said anything wrong. His crime, which may cost him his chance at the Senate, was verbalizing in a totally unambiguous way the misogyny of the Taliban Republicans who hope to fly into office under the radar. Aiken's true crime was being picked up on radar.

Todd Akin Explains ‘Legitimate Rape’ To Mike Huckabee With Wheelchairs And 9/11
I haven't listened to that sound file because I am at work, but if the transcript is correct:

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
I just wanted to add: there is a truly regrettable, yet fascinatingly awesome amount of cheesy, kitschy homemade artwork involving:
* 9-11;
* the Twin Towers;
* halfway visible US flags;
* crying/angry/vengeful bald eagles,
* giant Jesus doing different things (crying, praying, arm-wrestling the devil, catching dead people in a blanket painted like the US flag), etc.
and it's all available on the internet. The combined effect is what I imagine would happen if NASCAR, freerepublic.com, and Bob Ross had a joint convention somewhere. I've even seen some of this stuff custom painted on big pickup trucks and camping vans.
Seeing it all is like driving by a tragic, horrible car wreck: you know you shouldn't look at it, but you just can't help yourself.

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
One thing that gets me about this: I watched the full interview of Akin, at least the portion before and after this bit. The reporter's follow up question to the "legitimate rape" statement is, "Let's go to the economy...."
Is Soledad O'Brien the only reporter on TV news that challenges the statements made by politicians?
What's the logic behind letting such obviously false and ignorant statements go without comment?
A lot of people are making hay about the "legitimate rape" part, but that's not the only bit that's offensive.
Quote:
|
But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something. You know I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.
|
I think he's forgetting someone....
He also repeated the 9/11 story nearly verbatim in both the Huckabee and Jaco Report interviews. I gather that a well practiced talking point.

There was no logic involved, apparently. Akin said a litany of insane things before the legit rape part so the reporter was numb to crazy by then. Also he wasn't "100% fully engaged" and he wanted to get to the economy before time was up.
Quote:
Charles Jaco, the Missouri journalist whose question prompted Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” comment, told TPM he “screwed up” by not following up on the explosive remark.
“I dropped the ball,” Jaco said.
Jaco has interviewed Akin “dozens of times,” he said, and the nearly 20-minute interview went 14 minutes without touching on the economy. Jaco’s producer informed him that time was running low, and Jaco moved on. Before the “rape” comment, Akin made comments against federal money for student loans and school lunches and said the Voting Rights Act of 1965 deserves a second look. “At this point, I don’t know if I was inoculated to odd things that might have been said,” Jaco said.

Re: Conservatives say stupid shit
Representative Todd Aiken of Missouri cogitates.
Pant-Hooters on Key House Committee Open Inquest Into Vaginas
'What the Hell do These Baby Factories Want, Anyway?'
FREETHOUGHT-FORM.COM (Internet News Service) Pant-hooters on a key committee of the the Republican-controlled House of Representatives have opened an inquest into vaginas, it was announced Tuesday.
Representative Todd Aiken of Missouri, a member of the House Flat Earthers, Young Earth Creationists and Hooting, Shit-Flinging Zinjanthropus Committee, and a candidate for Missouri Senate, pant-hooted at a news conference in Washington that the committee would investigate "subversion between the legs of women."
"What do women want?" Aiken pant-hooted, as he scratched his asshole, expectorated, and then shit on the floor of the House of Representatives. "We're going to find out."
"These baby factories," Aiken added, pant-hooting, "are different from us men: foreign, alien, strange. They are members of a Vagina Sisterhood, and must be kept under close surveillance lest they fly airplanes into buildings or illegitimately accuse men of rape."
Aiken pant-hooted that a variety of baby factories from all walks of life would be subpoenaed to appear before his committee and "probed."
"We're going to penetrate this conspiracy, get inside of it," Aiken pant-hooted.
During a campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa, Mittens Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, pointed to a weather vane atop a barn and pant-hooted, "We'll just have to see which way the wind blows on this one."
"I'm perfectly willing to take off all my clothes, including my Magic Underpants, grow lots of hair, finger my own asshole and eat my own shit if I thought that by doing so I would win votes," Romney pant-hooted. "And given the state of America today, that will probably turn out to be a winning strategy."

See, yeah, that. Because when I read it the first time, I thought it sounded like some grasping-at-straws bullshit (like Palin's story of Paul Revere ringing the bell two times to keep the British from getting our guns). That is seriously the canned speech? Yikes.
Also, 9/11!
