Welcome to the Freethought Forum
The lofty high Renaissance and marked mannerism. The heavy and ornate Baroque era, followed by the gentle Rococo. Harsh neo-classicism, rich romanticism, lush naturalism, stern realism, blurred impressionism. Heady surrealism, blockish cubism, postwar Dada, pointy-cornered art deco and cookie cutter Bauhaus. Let us skip the dreariness of the past half century and arrive finally at FF Style.

Economics
Nov 27, 2020 - 11:57 PM - by viscousmemories
Here is a thread for general discussion of economics.

I've been learning a bit about economics lately as part of my immersion into politics (see my caveat) so I thought I'd start a thread for the topic.

Some of the economists or economist adjacent people I've been reading/listening to the most are Richard D. Wolff, Yanis Varoufakis, Mark Fisher, David Graeber, and Leo Panitch. I think most or all of them would say they embrace a Marxist analysis of economics.

Anyway I will start with How the Biden Administration Can Free Americans from Student Debt, by Astra Taylor.

The above is a compelling argument for the Biden admin to pursue radical debt relief at least as substantial as one that he has hinted at (a means-tested cancellation of 10k minimum) but preferably a lot more.

Quote:
Biden will be taking office amid a daunting public-health and economic crisis; a loudening chorus of experts and elected officials believe that a more ambitious approach to debt relief is needed to stem the suffering.

The Characteristics of the Dictators
Nov 26, 2020 - 12:42 AM - by Wael El-Manzalawy
1-The dictator believes that all his opinions are always right.

2-The dictator believes that he is the embodiment of the country. Any kind of opposition against him is considered a crime against the country.

3-Everyone in the country must be minor. No one is allowed to be a major person. If anyone dares to be a major person, the dictator gets rid of him.

4-The dictator uses the media to brain-wash his people. Some sects of the people become more loyal to the dictatorship than the dictator himself.

5-The dictator creates frightening security systems and puppet law representatives.

6-The dictator creates devilish enemies to justify his dictatorship.
