As far as the calculations, there is no proof that the space/time delay has any major consequence in trajectory or hitting the target. If there were, they would talk about it more, but they don't. I understood it perfectly. It can easily be shown, mathematically, that if we pretended that the actual location of Mars in the sky were the same as its apparent location, all Mars probes would miss their target by a wide margin.
Do you know who Phil Plait is? Want me to e-mail you father's claims to him?
Also, why don't you e-mail NASA and ask them about this? Want me to do it for you?
