Yeah, but I don't think he's harmful. There's some reason to think just the opposite.

Prejudices as grotesque as his persist in some people, I suspect, precisely because they're never really aired explicitly. Seeing someone state them in as many words -- as in the title of this thread -- is (I suggest) much likelier to embarrass a reader who maybe half-harbors similar thoughts, deep-down, from time to time, than to win over anyone able to operate a mouse-equipped electronic device.

alpha's demonstrable ignorance, relentless stupidity, and inordinate fondness for having his ass kicked are things that situate his racism and brutishness. If he didn't exist, a cynical liberal might want to create him as a sock puppet for the very purpose of illustrating the stink and corruption of right-wing racism. I think greater potential for harm exists in seemingly more moderate positions: pseudo-intellectual defences of the idea that the poor deserve to be poor, for instance. alpha, however, is too perfectly dumbassed to be anything other than entertainment.

Of course, many kinds of entertainment are tedious and annoying in more than trivial amounts...
