Since the Bush war "plan" failed to include any provisions for securing Iraq and its borders, Iraq has become a haven for al Qaeda operatives. It wasn't before, of course, but now it is. The US invasion and occupation of Iraq is also an unbelievably valuable propaganda and recruitment tool for al Qaeda. So as a result of US operations in
Iraq, the US and its allies are more vulnerable to attacks by
al Qaeda. Plus, since the American military is severely bogged down in Iraq, the US has fewer resources to go after al Qaeda. Like that one guy...what was his name? Osama bin something? Hence the connection.
