My mother didn't cook or clean once us girls hit 6-8 years old; that was our job. Trust me, it did

When I was the only kid left and active in high school, my mother and father hired a woman who came once a week to do the primary cleaning (I still did all the cooking and most the grocery shopping.) Mom said it wasn't fair that I had to do all that work by myself.
