I don't disagree. I know the "thanks" button is used as a bludgeon at least some of the time because you've admitted doing it yourself. I don't think you're alone, either, but since I'm not aware of anyone else admitting it I don't really have any way to be sure.

In any case I don't see an important difference between using ones own words to post "thanks" and clicking the "thanks" button. Both communicate the same message, which is that member so-and-so enjoyed, endorses or appreciates the comment. If the "thanks" generated by clicking the button were anonymous you'd have a reasonable point, but in fact the only significant difference between using the button and making a post is that less screen real estate is used by the former.

And hitting the "thanks" button doesn't artificially inflate one's post count with a bunch of two-word "me too" or "right on!" posts. Though hasn't really stopped anyone who wants to make endless fairly meaningless posts from spamming the boards in order to increase their post count.

Because that is the most important thing, to have a really high post count. :yup:
