According to the article, Microsoft "withdrew its support for House bill 1515". To me that sounds like they have been politically active on the issue all along, but have changed their position from supporting gay rights on this issue to
not supporting gay rights on this issue. For a company of their size and stature to make that kind of shift seems to me like an important political statement that should be of interest to anyone who supports gay rights.
