Not using Debian except in the second-hand sense. It's possible that Ubuntu has more hardware handling but I'd be surprised ... anyway, I haven't had problems like you describe. Back in Ubuntu 8 it was quite manual making displays work the way I wanted them. Now, all displays, headsets, mice, keyboards recognised without any hassle.
+1 [thanks] for thrad title ... but yeah it might be a hardware thing.
I won't raise it, but just acknowledge with a slight tip of the head that "try other distros on a live CD/USB" is a standard recommendation at this point.
