Question Israel developing anti-militant "bionic hornet"

Quote:
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is using nanotechnology to try to create a robot no bigger than a hornet that would be able to chase, photograph and kill its targets, an Israeli newspaper reported on Friday.

The flying robot, nicknamed the "bionic hornet", would be able to navigate its way down narrow alleyways to target otherwise unreachable enemies such as rocket launchers, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said.

It is one of several weapons being developed by scientists to combat militants, it said. Others include super gloves that would give the user the strength of a "bionic man" and miniature sensors to detect suicide bombers.
The weirdness continued

My bet is the militants are already pissing their pants :giggle:

Whilst I marvel at the technology, there are times I get seriously scared.

Unlike SDI, it might just work.

Robot hornet doesn't sound too practical to me. Sophisticated computers are getting pretty small, but they're still about pack-of-cards size. Power... that might be possible with those new combination fuel-cell/nitonol wires, but they'd have to power the computer too. And I sure as hell wouldn't want a flying poison syringe buzzing around without some really good friend-or-foe software. They'll probably learn a lot trying to build one though.

Now the gloves, that's possible and a really cool idea. Miniature sensors are doable and in many cases actually built, though 'sensor' can mean 'chemical strip that turns blue at 1 part per trillion nerve gas'.

I just KNOW the Palestinians are gonna come up with an answer that is:
cheap
simple
effective

This kinda thing happened in Iraq too, I am not sure about any specific examples but the US troops coming up with some really expensive device that was effective on paper but was trumped by some cheap improvised trick that the insurgents came up with.

I wish people would apply the same amount of money and brain power into creating the conditions and environments for peace. :sigh:

Do I get credit for the idea? No. Even though I thought up the same freakin' thing five years ago.

I wonder what poisons will be used? I'd guess batrachotoxin or botulinum toxin.

And what's the cheap and simple solution to guarding oneself from these "hornets"?: beekeeper outfits.

Uhm, yeh. Take out the militants, right.

Cos Israel never intentionally harmed any innocents.

Unfortunately, peace isn't as profitable.
