Default Oh, well -- he's just a Republican frontrunner

Mike Huckabee wants to change the Constitution.

Quote:
The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

That's kind of non-specific. What would he change in the Constitution?

Didn't they already try to pass such amendments?

Actually, this is a good thing. The more he talks up such stuff, the more extreme he appears. I don't think the average American like extremists of any ilk all that much.

Don't know if they've tried it at the federal level. I strongly doubt that any attempt to change it would achieve the required amount of support.

Both have been put forward several times, but failed to garner sufficient votes to pass.

I'm fairly sure you're right. But it's still damned depressing that he can be a front-runner for the party in power while being such an obvious shithead.

He's only a frontrunner in the party because of the religious right wing. That may be nearly all he gets. Remember, these voters nearly bolted from the party because Bush didn't come through for them on these very issues.

My pessimism went down a tick the other night, while talking with one of my neighbors. He said he wasn't happy with any of the Presidential choices. When the conversation got 'round to Huckabee, he said, "He thinks he can count on the Evangelical vote. I'm an Evangelical, and I think he's an idiot."

Wasn't much, but it was something.

Anecdotal though it is, that gives me hope. I need to poll my parental units and my sibling to see what they think of the guy.

What a moron! By the way the most used method needed to pass an Amendment is two thirds of each House of Congress must pass it and then either three fourths(38) of the 50 states' legislatures or the 50 states' conventions, must ratify it with or without a specified time limit. Then there is always a Constitutional Convention that only the most clueless would call for because anything can be put on the table. Huckabee's Amendments have a snowball's chance in Hell of being ratified!

It's a shame Huckabee is so funny and has a silly name that is hard to make sound ominous. But he still sucks. Huckster-pee can suck my balls.

Ha! My mom's not voting for him because he's a Baptist. Actually, none of my conservative family and in-laws support him--they're all over the place, last we heard.
