Question Mark Hey, you guys in the military...

...what do you think of this issue: http://www.christianforums.com/t1184...al-anthem.html

(Or anyone else for that matter :yup: )

I was wanting some opinions on the picture that is on the US Army login website (AKO). It has a current picture of a US soldier next to an Iraqi saluting while the Iraqi national anthem is being played! I must say that I got upset as an active duty soldier and OIF vet myself. If if I were still in Iraq or if I have to go soon with my unit again as scheduled that I refuse to salute. Maybe I am wrong so I wanted some opinions. I was there from the beginning of the war well into the stability and support phase BTW.
Do you think the picture and it's soundtrack is a bad thing or a good thing?

When I was in the military I saluted whenever and whatever I was ordered to salute.

We can't see the picture, because it's only hosted on a login military vets or staff site. We must take the word of the soldier asking the question in the OP, or be in the military to login to view.

Sorry 'bout that.

I could never be in the military. I hate having to do as I'm told. I'd be dishonorably discharged in no time.

Anyway, I guess that kinda negates that Guevara person's argument then, as the soldier saluting may be thinking just like the guy asking the question in the OP.

However, I think the soldier and the Iraqi with the Iraqi anthem are appropiate and a good thing. American soldiers with the American anthem would not be. They'd be more honest, I admit, but they'd be wrong and a bad thing.

I'm am in the military. ;) But seriously, it sounds like a double standard to me. If somebody were to sit down through America's national anthem at, say, a hockey game, a lot of Americans would be seriously pissed off, whether that person was American or not. But then we shouldn't show the same respect to another country's flag or national anthem? Bullshit.

Especially when you are supposed to be there for that whole "Iraqi Freedom" thing.

Yeah, I think the guy is a jerk, too.

I mentioned not actually being in the entire term of enlistment, didn't I? :D

Seriously though, I hated doing what I was told too. Hated hated hated it. In fact I walked off numerous jobs because my boss yelled at or otherwise belittled me. But I learned how to do what I was told in basic training. I learned it really, really well. :yup:

And yeah, I see nothing wrong at all with showing proper respect to the Iraqi anthem.
