And Nashville beats San Francisco. But that could just be Elvis still throwing off the numbers from beyond the grave.

I've lived on both sides of that graph. Back in the day, I was almost entirely subsisting on the left side and here lately I've been primarily on the right.
I have to wonder though. It doesn't take a lot of eating out to be equal or even just surpass the cost of eating at home. For about $50 I can get by about 10 days - and that's not being super miserly with home groceries. Back in the day I could be spending $50 every 3 or so days going out. (Nosh for breakfast, mebbe, out with the coworkers for lunch and something fast for dinner.) My wonder is for the same amount of money it's possible that we're not eating out any more than we're eating at home (a 3 out 4 in split would be generous). But then, I suppose our "modern lifestyle" isn't friendly enough to big fambly dinners that take hour(s) to prepare or plan for. I'd bet even in the grocery column they could break it further apart into ready to eat portions (frozen dinners and other such packaged meals).
My city is just above the national average, I see. I've got to wonder where Charleston (SC) would rank. Lots of good eating out there!
