Default One for the musicians

Ban on Lyrics and Tabs

Apparetly the MPA are calling for a ban on illegal sheet music. This is something i disagree with. Most guitar tabs are only representations of what the song is, and therefore worht nothing commercially. I believe that they are a good source of learning for aspiring musicians.

I do not agree with copying scores however. That is where i draw the line. That is an infringement of copywrite.

But if its just music fans sharing tabs or lyrics they have transcribed then what is the problem?

As with the demise of napster, a bunch of assholes will spoil it for the rest of us. For me, the effect of these periodic record company crusades will be to remove Lionel Gibaudan's Gentle Giant bass transcriptions because some tone deaf teenagers couldn't figure out either of the chords in a Green Day song.
