:sadcheer:

And what do you get for 3 trillion? A colony that is still broken (and blowing up US soldiers, 8 died yesterday).

What? I'm sorry, I wasn't listening - a black guy and a woman want to be president.

Clearly shows no taste, he should have chosen the redhead.

I'm so glad the Democratic congress and the Democrat presidential hopefuls are raking the Bush administration and their enabling colleagues over the coals for this debacle. Oh wait...

That's actually what I meant by "their enabling colleagues," but you are right I was wrong not to include them.

I must remember to buy stock in some of these companies. It's not as if the money's evaporating, it's going somewhere. The trick is to figure out where it's going to and either get into the industry (eg ammunition manufacturing), or buy stock in someone who already is.

An excellent point, and a necessary corrective to the simplistic "It's all about the oil" theme one sometimes hears.

Quite apart from the oil, the martial obsessions, the imperial ambitions, and the need to deflect attention from a presidency that was bereft of talent, promise, or a clue, there was this: a mind-bogglingly huge transfer of public money to a relatively tiny number of Admin-friendly (or Admin-owned) private companies.

That money's not evaporating, indeed.
