News Airline Industry Standards are Slipping

This is not good. Lowering standards for airline pilots is sure to cause more tragedies in the future.

Most working pilots don't make squat. Given the cost of getting one's commercial/ATP ticket, and building hours to get a job above slave wages, there isn't much incentive for talented pilots to pursue it as a career.

That is why my father-in-law became a flight instructor, sold insurance, sold used cars, sold real estate, sold just about anything he could make a buck on, rather than becoming an airline pilot.

Even CFIs make crap. Both of mine had other jobs to supplement their income.

My CFI had a very nice retirement gig going. I'm looking at it as a way of supplementing my income in the future.

As a former CFII I can tell you the pay totally sucks. It’s also an extremely cut throat business with everyone screwing each other fighting for students so they could make the big move. I don’t recommend it to anyone who can’t live on $500 a month (and that's a full time CFI).

I’ve got stories that would scare everyone here.

I just looked at what it takes to become an ATP these days. Wow, talk about cut back in requirements.
