Are We the Only Forum Without a MJ Thread?

I've been following the newstories on the Michael Jackson trial in a desultory sort of way, and I've read up on the sometimes hideously lurid materials posted at The Smoking Gun.

At this point, I can't say I hold a firm opinion on whether he committed the crimes alleged. His preoccupation with children does seem pathological to me, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he had in fact molested boys. This particular case, however, is not so cut and dried to me.

There are some shady behaviors here on all sides and as much as I hate the idea of blaming the victim, I also don't want to assume anyone who alleges molestation is automatically being truthful, particularly when big money might be on the line.

What are y'all's thoughts on the case?

Color me clueless. I haven't followed the case because, as you said, there is the fact that MJ is just plain weird on one side and I can't say he would never do such a thing, but you got the possibility of big huge money motivating the other side.

I have to wonder aloud though, what kind of parent would allow their kid to go spend nights alone with a weird adult?

I heard somewhere that some channel (E I think) is doing re-enactments of the trial based on the transcripts. Complete with celebrity impersonators and all that. I find that kind of disturbing for some reason.

I have not been following the case.

Yeah. So I know I'm supposed to let the Michael Jackson thread die an ignored death and stuff, what with y'all wanting FF to be an oasis away from this worked-to-death topic. But I have this weird need to show (and brag) just how out of the loop I am with this circus.

Then my thoughts after learning what the thread was about were, "Wow, I feel pretty much the same way about the case that liv does."

And now I'm really proud of:

1. Not realizing at first who MJ referred to; and
2. Finding out that a person I respect shares my opinion about something.

Yeah, I just fucking responded with an argument against slavish devotion to pop culture by quoting a pop song. Because that's where I get all my ideas.

I can barely stand to watch the news coverage of this trial. Just a circus.

MJ is one strange person. He is emotional disturbed for sure, look at him. He is stuck at the age of 9 or 10 at the most. His only outlet his entire life has been his music. He has incredible musical talent. The rest of his maturity never happened.

He has all the trappings to lure any child, and their parents for that matter into his sick world. I fell he is the worst kind of CHILD MOLESTER. He thinks what he is doing is FINE.

I hope somehow his behavior is stopped for good. He has a problem, he needs help.. He can't continue to buy his way out of these situtations. That's my opinion of the whole MJ trial could do without a thread as well.

Funny. I'm a bit of a Jesusmyther, myself, and I thought somebody wanted a thread on marijuana. That's what drew my attention. I didn't even think of the Jesus Myth stuff.

Shows that I'm even more clueless than you are (but you'd figured that out already, since I'd admitted being a Jesusmyther).

I'm with maddog. I'd rather we'd left it without a MJ thread.

Hardly. It's obviously not just another child molestation case, and obviously a shitload of people care. There are entire message boards out there far bigger than this one entirely dedicated to Michael Jackson worship. He may be a musical loser now, but that doesn't mean he no longer holds any cultural resonance and it certainly doesn't mean that this hugely publicized, reenacted on E trial is just like any other.

You may not be interested; you may wish everyone else shared your disinterest, but they don't. To each his own, as the cliche goes.

Yes, I know that's true. What I was trying to express is that the level of interest is a sorry indictment of humanity. It should be just another trial; the fact that it isn't disgusts me.
