Retirement
Unofficially, I have not worked since one month ago today. Officially, my retirement began yesterday, at least according to the limber-dick cocksucker at Fidelity Investments. What that actually means is I don't get my fucking retirement month for another fucking month, which pisses me the fuck right fucking off.
That said, I have been enjoying not getting up and going to work. I'm still having to get up in the morning Monday through Friday to get Dylan up and off to school, so I've got that going for me.
Other than that, what have I been doing during retirement?
1. Volunteered for the Tulsa Parks and Recreation Gathering Place park playground, a new facility, which was sampled by invited groups of Kindergartners through Third-Graders from elementary schools in the Tulsa area.
2. Ran a 1K race. Actually ran for a whole kilometer. Got a medal for doing so. Feel special.
3. Walked a lot, as much as 4.5 miles up on Turkey "Mountain", three or four days per week.
4. Swam laps 3 to 4 days per week, now up to 800 meters nearly without stopping.
5. Took a Tai Chi class.
6. Played the piano enough that I am just about where I was at age 13.
7. Painted our bedroom.
8. Signed up to run a 4K race this Sunday.

Re: Retirement
My ship came in, and for a change I wasn't drunk off my ass in the airport lounge when it did. I received my first Social Security Retirement check last Wednesday and my retirement check yesterday. My retirement feels really official now. The only thing I'm waiting on now is for the health insurance company to bill me for the premium, the dental and vision insurance already has.

Re: Retirement
I feel we should save these posts in some sort of archive, so that one day we can look back upon the thoughts of those who retired.
What was it like? Was it as good as they say? Will anyone ever retire again?

Re: Retirement
So far, I am so busy I haven't had time to enjoy not working. Today, I went to a furniture store to buy a new bed frame to replace the one I broke when trying to move it so I can paint the bedroom. Then we went to Costco to buy a couple of things, ended up buying a couple dozen. I went home to take Dylan to track practice. I know the only reason he is in track is a girl because he was wearing cologne to track practice. While Dylan was showing off for the girl, I put a tarp over the chimney ahead of the upcoming rains, because I haven't scheduled a chimney sweep to come repair the chimney cap that leaks rainwater onto the ceiling of our den. Costco had LED spotlights on sale, subsidized by our electric company, so I bought one dozen, to replace all the incandescent, halogen, and CFF lights that weren't working on the outside of our house. 10 of 12 are working, the other two may need new wiring thanks to squirrels that lived in our attic one winter. After picking up Dylan, I kicked ass at Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on TV, if i had been a contestant instead of a guy sitting in an easy chair at home. Then I ordered Dylan's requested weapons and armor for Airsoft. I will be taking over his two M1911 Colt and M16 rifle airsoft weapons, fully intending to kick his and those other punks' asses on the Airsoft field. I then piled the broken bed frame on the brush pile. Cleaned stuff out of the gutters. Went to Walmart to pick up a 110 pound barbell set and a 40 pound dumbbell set, both of which I carried into the house, the heavier of which while thinking, "Damn, I used to carry more than this around with me all the time a year ago." Then I took my wife to a bar, got her drunk, then came home and started watching Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix. Welcome to my day.

Re: Retirement
Update: Spent last Tuesday through Friday in the hospital because of my stupid bleeding ulcer. This past Wednesday, got a cortisone injection in my shoulder to help with recovering from injuries received when I fell while running that cross country foot race last month. Later that day a tooth broke off, so I had emergency dental work done Thursday morning, a crown prep, no root canal needed. After that, while still numb, drove 110+ miles each way to see my sister in the hospital. Friday, drove 80 or so miles each way to look at real estate. Today, going back to look at the insides of the real estate. Tomorrow, may be going back again to look at another couple of houses. Tonight, though, I am Drinking With Atheists (DWA) at Kilkenny's Irish Pub, Magners Irish Cider. Busy, busy, busy.
