Default tooting my own horn

Here's a letter to the editor from me in today's Minnesota Star-Tribune.
Democrats' best case

The debate within the Democratic Party, at least as reported in the Aug. 28 article "Democrats waver in unifying stand against war in Iraq," misses the mark.

Democrats do not have to call for immediate withdrawal or even a withdrawal date to regain their credibility on national security.

All they have to do is reiterate the facts that are already clear: that President Bush lied about Saddam Hussein having banned weapons and ties to Al-Qaida, that the war in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terrorism, and that Bush has all but abandoned the fight against Al-Qaida for an unrelated and far less urgent issue.

Then they must take these facts to their logical conclusion: that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be impeached for lying to Congress and needlessly endangering the lives of American servicemen and women.

That's a good letter! I thought you were talking about another kind of horn and I was coming here to congratulate your flexibility, but bravo on the letter!

Someone at work saw the letter and sent me a suportive email, and a complete stranger looked up my phone number and called to thank me for writing it.

Please do. It's about the message, not my ego. If Oklahoma has any Democrats in Congress write to them too.

We've got one.

But, it sounds like he's bought the administration's tale of success in Iraq hook, line, and sinker. To coin and old phrase: With Democrats like these, who needs Republicans.

Indeed...its really sad, but I think the major voice of the rational opposition in the US right now is The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. At least its the only consistent non conservative voice I hear on US TV. Maybe I'm not watching the right channels...

The major voice? His is the only voice of rational opposition I've heard on TV. But I haven't even heard his on TV, I have to watch clips at the CC website 'cause I don't have cable.

It's not that all the news channels are pandering to conservatives (although many do), it's that they do such terrible journalism. It's dumbed down and emotional, asking stupid questions and not asking the obvious good questions. It seems to be about getting an emotional reaction out of the audience rather than gathering and sharing information.

Agree with you there, entirely. In fact, Stewart himself said the same thing a few months back on one of the newstalk shows (I can't remember exactly which one, but I think its was the one with Tucker Carlson...).

On Fox News yesterday I learned how Brett Favre's parents are doing. They're just fine, by the way, except the poor souls lost their home. I sure hope they can afford to start over!

On CNN today I saw the heartwarming story of a dog who survived the floods by swimming, until he was rescued by humans on a passing canoe.

Later, on CNN Headline News, I saw two gay men reuinited after one of them had been missing during the disaster. I got to watch them make out. It was pretty hawt.

Sorry, what was this thread about?
