Some Prosecutors Have All the Fun

Dominatrix Acquitted in Bondage Death. Seems a fair enough verdict to me, what with the total lack of evidence and all, but that's not even the stand-out part of this story.

How do we get Sam Waterston to do this for his next ripped from the headlines performance?

During his closing argument to the jury, prosecutor Robert Nelson put on a black leather mask with a zippered mouth opening and re-enacted the bondage session. With both hands, he reached back and clutched the top of a blackboard as if strapped to the rack. Then he hung his head as if dead.

Asher's lawyer objected, and the judge agreed.

"That's enough Mr. Nelson," Judge Charles Grabau said. "Thank you for your demonstration."

I guess the verdict seems fair, as you say.

I wonder if the prosecutor had to go out and buy the prop or did they just have one laying about the office.

I could've sworn someone had already posted about this, but maybe I was just thinking about having read the news stories. (The first one I read also emphasized the prosecutor's antics, but it was pre-judgement. Last night I read about the judgement.)

I was pretty shocked by this:

Prosecutors said Asher confessed to police, but the alleged confession was not taped, and investigators testified they did not save their notes.

Um... what? So they heard her confession, jotted it down on a legal pad, then tossed it afterward?

I thought that was bizarre too. I couldn't tell from the article whether she denied having made a confession, but either way, it's pretty shoddy work for a murder investigation.

Either they were some of the worst investigators ever or there was more too it, like she said it in a sarcastic tone and the prosecutor tried to run with it or something.

Remember the judge that was caught masturbating on the bench a year or so ago? I bet they got the props from his back office.

This reminds me of a murder trial I saw live coverage of on Court TV last year


The victim was stabbed to death in bed by his lover. 2 members of the prosecution team did a re enactment. The male D.A. lay on a mattress whilst the female D.A..straddled him and made slow, sweeping stabbing motions ~ 100 times + as another lawyer counted. It was something else
