One of this goals of this forum is the ability for its members to have control over their environment here. Some people don't like to be bothered by assholes, so they ignore them. I have done it before, though not in your case.

Why should we have to put up with people who just want to inflict themselves on others? If that's not you, then why does it bother you? You still get to discuss things with the people who want to discuss them with you. :shrug:

Indeed. Availing yourself of a choice based on your preferences strikes me as one of the advantages of freedom, not a detriment to it.

weak. you might have control over your environment, but ignoring me has control over miine. my 'audience' and feedback is limited. it can also be used as a weapon. some of you need a lesson in what freedom really is. i didn't say anything in that thread to warrant being ignored. weak.

using the ignore feature not only lessens the experience for somebody else, but for you as well. you are a slave to your own inadequacies.

You have the freedom to blather on as much as you like, but you are not promised an audience. That must be earned.

No it doesn't and no I am not. If I chose to ignore someone who harrasses me, I am not enslaving myself. I am simply choosing not to allow another person to have influence or control over me.

sure it does. shouldn't everybody have access to the same feedback? what's worse is when it is used as a tool to silence and opposing view or style. what use is it if i come here and nobody listens? i might post my truth for myself, but it is my truth examined through feedback. limiting that for some...isn't freedom.

and then there is the personal aspect. what about your own freedom when you choose to use it? you are free to do that, but does that make THIS experience, forum, free?

You are not entitled to attention, Michael. The default environment is not all eyes on you. You are ignored actively or passively every day in every environment you're ever in, just like everyone else.

Do you resent someone who puts on his headphones and listens to music while you're talking loudly in a subway? Is he "weak" while the person just looking out the window or reading or tuning you out in some other way is strong?
