Ralph Reed beaten like a rat in a wastebasket
Professional Christian concedes defeat in GOP primary
"This is a major message to Republicans nationwide: Don't run on the faith-based ticket if someone can make you look like a hypocrite," said Matt Towery, a former Newt Gingrich strategist and chairman of the Atlanta-based polling and media firm InsiderAdvantage.
"What we've seen tonight in Georgia is the appearance of only the most core Republican base, which is not as religious-right as America thinks," Towery said. "These are businessmen and women, and to many of them Ralph Reed didn't reflect their image." Good work, Georgians.

I keep telling these religious guys, they should run in Oklahoma, they'd stand a lot better chance here than about anywhere else.

Yeah, but who wants to go through life being known as someone who represented Oklahoma?

Senators Tom Coburn (nutjob doctor) and Jim Inhofe (general all-around idiot) seem to be quite proud of it.

Thought so.
Y'know, I've always wondered if he had sibilings, and if he did, what their names are. You ever wonder that?
Like, is there a Nasal Roberts? Or, Optic Roberts? Or, maybe sisters, Anal and Vaginal?

I liked this part best:
Quote:
Towery and others were surprised by Reed's defeat, considering he excelled at turning out the vote, and had the backing of national figures like former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former U.S. Sen. Zell Miller.

Thank you, Georgia, for giving a big FU to two-faced, lying bastard, fascist apologist POS Zell "Spitball" Miller.
I don't care much for Zell

Was this the same guy that Stephen Colbert asked to recite the ten commandments? I can't remember, but it seems like it was a senator or representative from GA.

Who, Ralph Reed? No, this was Ralph's first attempt at public office. He used to be Pat Robertson's bumboy.
The NYT's lead says it all:
ATLANTA, Wednesday, July 19 — Ralph Reed, the former director of the Christian Coalition and a former Republican lobbyist involved in the Jack Abramoff scandal, suffered an embarrassing defeat in his effort to win the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor on Tuesday.

I wish I could believe this is the end of the line for the Fundie fascists.
Sen. Brownback (R - Pig) presents scientific evidence that stem cells are people, too.

But that leaves out the juicy part: Reed's organization was receiving money funneled from Indian casino gambling. And all the while he was being paid as a lobbyist to fight against a *different* gambling / casino operation. So what did he do? He mobilized the rightwing moral rednecks against gambling, using the religious argument against it. Of course, he didn't tell anyone that he was a paid political prostitute for a different gambling operation.
Typical conservative fundie christian. How many of these high profile right-wingers have seen their reputations shattered because someone found out the real truth abuot them lately? Swaggert, Robertson (multiple revelations, actually), Bennett, and now Reed.

Re: Ralph Reed beaten like a rat in a wastebasket
I held my nose and voted in the Repub primary to vote against Reed (and Kemp my local state senator running for Ag Sec).
PLEASE! Those of you registered to vote in GA, please vote in the runoff election for Ag Sec if at all possible--AGAINST Kemp. He's a wretched conservative developer from the Athens region and shouldn't be rewarded with any more public support. I think Irvin probably will win it anyway, but if he somehow loses, I don't want him to lose to Kemp.
