My favorite thing about it is the obliviousness - oh, yeah, I'm sure feminists have never been told they won't find a man if they don't stop acting out… that's sure to get them back in line! Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?

My favorite thing is the apparent unselfconsciousness with which he threatens to withhold his affections. As though there is a woman out there who either identifies as feminist or is on the fence about it who be even remotely interested.

My least favorite thing about it is that I keep trying to come up with some portmanteau of Lysistrata and some dudely word that would be remotely recognizable and the best I have so far is "Misterstrata," which isn't very good.

Biggus Dickus, I mean Maximus Trent, probably can't conceive of a woman who wouldn't question her lifestyle when she hears he (and a number of growing men) won't date her. (Let alone be relieved that men like him are promising to leave her alone in bars and that's what she wanted all along.)

He may not actually be anti-feminist ... if he simply doesn't get what feminism is. It's like those religionists who say that no one can actually be atheist, that atheists believe in god but "deny" him.

I don't know why you guys are giving Trent Max such a hard time for saying that he will "not date feminists." So he's only going to date guys who aren't feminists. Big deal. I'm sure there are plenty of nice, aggressive power tops who aren't feminists. It is no business of yours whether or not Trent Max's boyfriend is a feminist or not. I don't understand why Trent Max can't just find a couple of non-feminist bears on Grindr or Craiglist to pound his ass raw without the whole internet taking offense. God. Feminists.

I am afraid Emma's message is going to fall flat. Even people that agree with 90% of what she said are discrediting her main points and the whole "will Anonymous leak nude pictures of her?" thing was bizarrely relevant (in a negative way) to the speech. I was surprised at the amount of applause she got, but clapping is easy. Not sure these leaders are going to really take it to heart.

Well, Emma Watson is a celebrity spokesperson for a larger initiative. I don't know exactly what they're working on, but I assume that there's more to it than the speech.

And in a way, Lewis' Law is useful as an illustrative tool. People who are on the fence, who think maybe people are making mountains out of molehills, usually get a handy illustration of just how much work there still is to be done just by watching how people react to even the mildest, most toned down feminist thought.

One thing I like young women like Lorde and Emma Watson doing their thing out there is that they are so damn smart for being so damn young. Usually I think young people are stupider than me, because a lot of the time they are, but some woman are way smarter than I was at their age and it took me a lot of years to learn the stuff they are saying now. How did they learn all of that so young? I will never know.

One thing that really hit home for me was when I read something very recently about how Emma Watson has been sexualized since the age of 14. So very true, and I would like to think that the adults responsible for her (be they her parents or movie-making people) were completely aware that that would happen to whoever was cast as Hermione (despite her being almost totally nonsexual in the books and movies) and that she went into it from the beginning knowing that would happen and she was able to prepare herself as much as possible and not get all caught off guard and traumatized by it.

Also only tangentially related was one of my favorite things when she was like 17 or 18 and she was photographed drinking a Corona Light (*GASP!*) and everybody was all "OMG UNDERAGE DRINKING! SHE'S PARTYING AND OUT OF CONTROL!" and she was like "derp, this is England. Beer-drinkin' age is 16" or whatever it was. Not everywhere is America, TMZ. Duh...

And now going completely orthogonal, I liked when she cut her hair because she said obviously she had to do it because she had been defined by her bushy-brown Hermione hair for 10 years and she had to get out from under it if she wanted to be Emma, which Duh, but I like thinking of those weirdo assholes getting all freaked out by haircuts like they did with Felicity and every other woman on earth who ever cut her hair short.

"Vending machine thinking" I call it. Do the right things in the right order and a vending machine is supposed to give something to you -- if it can't, it's broken, if it won't, it's a thief. Or maybe you got it slightly wrong, or it's just picky, so you have to keep badgering the vending machine until it does what you want.
