Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
I think this was another win for Kerry. In fact, if I were gay, I'd say that it was a sweaty, ass-pounding win for Kerry (and yes, I'm in kind of a goofy mood right now).
I think he scored major points when he brought up the unequal pay between men and women (which Dubya didn't address), and I can't believe that Bush so bluntly disregarded the question of whether he'd overturn Roe v. Wade.
I was watching a bit of CNN, and even Dubya's senior campaign hag wouldn't answer the question as to whether or not Bush would want to overturn Roe v. Wade...she just spewed out the same crap about judges and litmus tests.

Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
Kerry cleaned the smirking idiot's clock, and there's going to be more smackin' the chimp around when people start looking at all the lies he used as substitutes for facts and figures.
And some of the evasions were glaring. Kerry comes right out and says he's for raising the minimum wage to $7; moron Bush is opposed to it, but knows he can't say so, so he weebles on about NCLB.
Something different: Bob Schieffer was a smarmy annoyance. He wasn't as bad as the second moderator, but jeez...that question about "faith". The debate was boring enough without inviting the two to start babbling nonsense. And the question about "strong women": total suckup.

Yes, but to those retards, I say "here's some help. Go get an education. Our no child left behind act ensures that ours chidrun know how to add n subrtract and multiply an divide."
There's a valuable debate strategy: instead of answering questions, ramble on about an educational act that was well-intentioned but severely underfunded. Asshole.

I'm guess it has something to do with the holographic chess match from Star Wars: "Let the wookie win"

Did Bush threaten to rip Kerry's arms out of their sockets? Now I'd sorry I missed the debates!
Come to think of it, Bush is about as articulate as a Wookie.
Cheers,
Michael

Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
Heh. No. The Chewbacca defense is quite simple: Johnnie Cochrane (in the fictitious South Park universe, of course), gets up and replies to the plaintiffs' open-and-shut case by showing the jury a picture of Chewbacca. He says, "Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, this is a picture of Chewbacca." He rhetorically asks why he's talking about Chewbacca, when he's defending a man on trial for his life, then answers it by heatedly declaring that it "makes no SENSE!" He talks a bit more about Chewbacca, then comes back to the case, this courtroom, nay our entire society, screaming now that none of it makes any sense. "So, in conclusion, if Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit." They always do. Such is the power of Johnnie Cochrane.
South Park is available on DVD, y'know.

Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
Ha HA! YAY!!!
So, I was too burned out last night after the debate to even think about this shit again for a while. I put a pie meme into the ODB, so he went and got us some pies, and we watched stories on TV that didn't have anything to do with real stuff.
But I am very glad that others did indeed notice the fact that Bush thinks those of us who can't find work in the tech sector need fucking HEAD START because we probably can't "read, write, add, and subtract."
This coming from a man who would be living in a wet cardboard box in any kind of merit-based system.
He thinks we're ILLITERATE. He thinks people can't get jobs because they're STUPID. STUPIDER EVEN THAN HIM.
Every single person who has faced or is facing the possibility of layoffs, or has had a hard time finding work in the new economy, needs to have this point driven home to them over and over and over: George W. Bush cannot even begin to grasp the realities of your problems. He thinks you can't find work because YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO READ.
Every time I think, "OK. That's it. He's reached the pinnacle. Short of personally committing mass genocide, there is nothing this man could do to make me hate him any more," he somehow manages to do it. I give up. And in the lowest deep a lower deep, still threatening to devour me, opens wide, to which the hell I suffer seems a heaven.
Fire him. Fire the fucker.

Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
I remember a decade ago when us good-for-nothing uneducated workers were admonished that our future was limited if we didn't get ourselves trained for the coming high tech revolution. Many did. Now, where did that lead? I know more people with advanced computer training that are out of work than I do people that used to work in manufacturing. Hmmm, if high tech jobs aren't where it's at, what is? $5.15 an hour service industry jobs or $8 an hour telemarketing jobs seems to be pretty much all that has much in the way of openings lately.

"Bedazzle" sounds like an excellent candidate for the Words You Hate thread.
I've always heard the version Nil cited. And it never really made sense to me. After all, if you aren't smart enough to dazzle them with brilliance(whoever "they" are), then why should you expect to be able to baffle them with bullshit?

Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
The idea is to "baffle" them, i.e. overhwhelm them with enough information/redundant data/meaningless crap, to accomplish the means of completely and utterly confusing them. Ever gone over someone's head and just caused them to give up because they don't get it?
In this way, you save face for being ignorant and/or arrogant by being... well, ignorant and arrogant.

Re: Debate 3: If Hate Were People, I'd Be China
I know a lot of the baffle 'em with bullshit types, they go on and on about shit they don't know anything about, but as long as they say it with authority, most people either believe them or just go "Huh?". It is more difficult to dazzle 'em with brilliance, but extremely difficult to dazzle 'em with bullshit, it just doesn't work very well.

Yeah, I couldn't quite remember it. I thought it was alliterative, but didn't think it was all "b"s.
Thanks.

You can actually get formal training in this technique. It's called an MBA program.

I'm well aware of the strategy involved. My point is that if you aren't smart enough to to dazzle them, you're probably not going to be able to pull off the alternative.
