I'm in my new location now, which is to say Silicon Valley, which is to say an extended stay hotel. I'm going to the house tomorrow to do the walkthrough and get the keys, but Gizmo and I are planning to keep this room for the week while we deal with taking delivery of the trailer, etc. We miss bey and Ripley a lot, but we're both very happy to be done travelling.

I'm supposed to start my jerb on Monday, but it occurred to me too late on Friday that I haven't heard anything about it in a while. I'm planning to just show up at the same place and time as last year and hope my name is on the list.

Even making stops and what all it feels like you made good time galavanting across the country. Just last night I remembered we had the same car and I was curious what kind of mileage you got. In my normal driving I get at best in the high 30s. I've never had the chance to really stretch the legs.

You know, I didn't even time it. I've done several trips almost as long in that car and I used to measure it (don't remember the numbers though) but she's 8 years old now and has 160k miles, so I kind of don't even want to know. She's definitely due for every kind of service (B123 :spend:), the light came on as soon as I got in California.

We had a Mad Tea Party today and I read Jabberwocky* and the scene where the Cheshire Cat declares "we're all mad here" and we ate nibbles of cream cheese and smoked salmon and little eclairs and such. I love my family, they're so fun.

*I asked Hubby to do the reading and as he looked it over was all "I don't know these words". WTF, we've been married for a quarter century and you haven't read Jabberwocky and we've never discussed it? How did that happen?

You need to think again, LS. About your methods of hubby raising.

Readings are such an important thing. I was called upon to read Winnie the Pooh in Latin at my sister's wedding.

Jabberwocky was the first poem I memorized, for a 5th grade english class. Annabel Lee was the second one.

I pronounced "slithy" wrong, IIRC.

I "what's up" news, we are getting a fence for the back yard. First inspection by the village is today. And Tallulah is going to the vet today.

I'm stuck in a rut. I've really run out of things to say and/or do. I have visitors from out of town, they're going to a conference, so I'm not going to see them much either.

I had a job interview yesterday; they're supposed to give me a decision this morning.

My new chosen career path is "devops" so I've been drinking from the firehouse for a couple months learning everything I can about software development (ask me about agile, scrum, kanban, lean, test, build, continuous integration, continuous deployment, puppet, chef, ansible, python, powershell, dsc, aws, etc... I dare you.) to complement what I already know about datacenter design and management.

Meanwhile a recruiter from that big computer company I used to work for called to offer me a solution architect role, but they told me it would be impossible for me to get anywhere near the going rate for the position on the grounds that I made too much less than that in my last role there. Seriously. Not only that, but the recruiter didn't even know if the role she was offering me would be in Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA.

HEY ME TOO :loud:

Lost 15-18 pounds, by eating mostly fruits, vegetables and nuts, getting more exercise, and some regular fasting. Am very psyched by dropping below 200 lbs yesterday for the first time in about 4 years. Ideally have about 40 lbs more to go, but it's a good start. I am migrating myself to a low calorie diet.

It's nice to be able to wear some of those pants that haven't fit in a while. It's like going clothes shopping but in my own closet, for free.

No job! They were convinced (erroneously, imho) they needed a Powershell guru, which I am not.
