Re: What's up with you?
Oh, and you know how I found out about this? Because I got a Conserva-turd mailing that hoped to get my vote by declaring, "You wouldn't vote for Obama; why would you vote for [other candidate]?" And went on to say how that person is just TOO LIBERAL!
Well, someone should do more research before mass mailing to Middle Tennessee because a lot of us OMG-Liberals live here.
Anyway, so I went be-bopping over to my county's election commission web site to see how/where to do early voting. That's where I found the sample ballot; when I read that proposed constitutional amendment I forgot all about my first reason to vote. Here was a better one!
Time to do what I should have been doing all along: start researching candidates and see who will best serve my interests. (I could do it the lazy way and vote straight Democrat but that's no guarantee in this state.)
Thanks, Conserva-turd! You inspired this liberal to vote.

Had a couple more nosebleeds this week. One on Monday, while I was driving home from work, and one this morning that went on until I got to the emergency room, where they packed it with stuffing to make it stop.

I am heading out to Phoenix on Monday to spend some time with my mother and officiate at my uncle's memorial service. Unless we can talk my mother into upgrading to a high speed connection I will probably be incommunicado for the next week and a half.

I'm reunioned out. Two weekends ago, I went to my 40th high school class reunion, this past Saturday was my extended family reunion in Kansas, then Sunday we had another more immediate family reunion around a campfire ring on the bluffs overlooking the Verdigris River northeast of Tulsa. And this morning, another smaller immediate family reunion over brunch at Brookside By Day in Brookside.

I am incredibly claustrophobic without sleep. This is the first time I have pulled an all nighter since I moved into my place or started this semester. Man they need a good 10 foot rule for personal space at this school.

Re: What's up with you?
Just got back from girls weekend in Traverse City. We have Canadian Thanksgiving each year, mainly because they want me to make them a turkey dinner and I'm weird enough to think it's a reasonable request. The fall colors were absolutely breathtaking. Unfortunately, the gorgeousness of the trees and the fact that it was Sweetest Day weekend meant that everything was also packed. Didn't stop us from visiting three wineries and checking out downtown. Dinner was yummy, too. You can see some of the picture's on my friend's Instagram.

On my way to NY for a conference. Left my laptop at the security check. About 10 minutes later, I heard them paging my name to go back and get it. Sure glad I had my business card taped to it; I might have been on the plane before I noticed, otherwise.

Re: What's up with you?
I applied for a job and I want it so bad I could scream! It's with a non-profit, and the program manager came to me and asked if I was interested in working there, doing the same stuff I'm doing now. I said yes (even though I mentally responded HELL FUCKING YEAH) and after a couple of agonizing days of waiting for them to post the job I applied. They're only posting the job for a week. I sent in my stuff, and got the thank you for applying, we're reviewing submissions and if you're selected for an interview, you'll hear from us. So now I have the agony of waiting waiting waiting waiting.
It's a full time job with benefits, which would solve so many problems. And since it's with a non-profit I would be eligible for loan forgiveness.
This would solve so many problems and make my life so much better.

Re: What's up with you?
My left wrist has suddenly decided to hurt during the night. I think it started on Friday and has progressed to hurting during the day, not always but when I turn the wrist the wrong way. I've done the whole internet self-diagnosis thing and best guess is De Quervain's tenosynovitis but I'm not sure it's right. If it is I need to get a cortizone shot. Don't know why my body loves these no known cause, no known cure conditions so damn much.

Re: What's up with you?
Anyone familiar with the Agile method of product development? Because our company's new CIO has decreed that we're jumping into doing things that way. Yes, jumping into it because he announced it last Monday and the first day of the first sprint was this Monday (yesterday).
It pains me to admit that I'm actually working better this way. I hate it when people I don't like do something that makes sense ... and I have to admit it!

Re: What's up with you?
Yes indeedy. It's extremely rational. (A couple of allusions there.)
But it's not one method - are you doing Scrum? Extreme Programming? Agile Unified? Test-Driven Development? Or just a set of general practices emphasising stuff? Do you have Customers? Product Owners?
User Stories? Use Cases? (alternatives to each other)
a Backlog? Continuous Integration?

Re: What's up with you?
I think my grey kitty has finally passed We can't find her.
Backstory-she began getting sick last summer with sporadic diarrhea. Figured it was a bug. It started to become a daily thing. So we took her to the vet, we thought it might be worms. De wormed her. That didn't do any good and it became constant. Talked to the vet, they suggested changing her diet, changing her water to a running source, and changing her flea meds. Nothing worked.
We boarded her in December at the vet, they de wormed her again. That again did nothing. We did bloodwork, xrays, and ultrasounds. Nothing out of the ordinary showed up. Meanwhile she's getting skinnier and skinnier. The last thing we had left to try was exploratory surgery which we ruled out. She was 15 and they said it was highly likely she wouldn't survive surgery. So we kept her comfy as possible and waited. She began wanting to be outside more and more but would sleep with us at night.* She didn't come in last night, hasn't come in to eat today. She wouldn't let me touch her yesterday but other than that seemed fine. I just have...a feeling, I guess.
*she was never far from us and always had a way in the house. She wasn't a wanderer.

Ow, ow, ow. This stuff is still so new to me.
The guy says this is a bastardized version of Agile so I don't know what differs and what doesn't. All I've ever done before is waterfall, only I didn't know it was called that until I first heard of Agile.
Anyway, we're working in two-week sprints and the first two of them are defined; deciding what to work on in the next few sprints is still being hammered out with our user base.
There is Backlog.
There are Scrum meetings, which we do everyday.
Beyond that, I don't know what other buzzwords apply to what we're doing.

Re: What's up with you?
Got laid off today. I'm 43 and this is the first time in my life I've had my employment terminated involuntarily. I'm a bit surprised at the news, but not terribly upset. After all, the company let me pack up and move across country while working remotely. I can't say that my managers have been anything but supportive of this, even if they lost a (large) portion of my value as an employee by working remotely.
OK - off to ply contacts and update my resume - maybe do some household chores.

inland wave's uterus tried to escape on it's own, so we had to cut it free. We don't know where it is now, probably hobknobbing with Leesifer'sUterus somewhere. The wave is at home convalescing. I still haven't recovered. Our budget may not recover in this fiscal year.

I'm spending a lot of time at doctor's appointments with her now and get to clean up her incredibly wrecked house.
