Re: The Make Something Every Week Contest
One of the three plastic and rubber feet of my slow cooker collapsed and melted. The slow cooker then sat on the melted foot at a funny angle and partly melted through an electrical cord that happened to be underneath it.
(The cord was of a bread making machine that wasn't plugged in at the time.)
I still don't know why that one foot got so hot - maybe there is some fault with the slow cooker.
Anyway, to make a new foot was difficult as the fixing point was a sort of rivet that couldn't be removed; I wanted to make the replacement foot from something that wouldn't melt (metal) but didn't want it to burn or scratch the work surface that the cooker sits on. So I fabricated a new foot by sawing drilling bending and filing an old bike wrench that happened to be a metal plate of about the correct thickness and then fixing that to a short wooden post with some machine screws.
If I charged for my time taken at any reasonable rate, I could have bought several new cookers instead of fixing this old one, but that's not the point, right?

Re: The Make Something Every Week Contest
I hereby declare myself the local champeen of sweetness.
Yesterday, after my roommate returned from visiting his fambly for Christmas, I maded some hot chocolate beverage for us both. Except it wasn't chocolate. (I think I was inspired by an hot chocolate commercial though.) I knew we had some milk (both cow and soy) and I knew we had some Nutella laying about. I thought it a brilliant idea to make a hot nutella beverage. And I did! It was p simple to do and it came out alright. I could have used more nutella but I didn't want to deplete our emergency reserves. So, it came out not quite as nutella-y as I'd wanted but still tasty.
And the other thing I maded this week: As previously mentioned, my roommate has returned from his Christmas visit but not empty handed. His sister made some pecan pie for us. I had some remainder of heavy cream from a previous recipe this week and I wanted to make us some whipped cream to enjoy with out pie. Back story: I had no idear that whipped cream was so easy. Last year at this time I was with my own fambly and moms whipped up some whipped cream and I was amazed. So, now knowing how easy it was, I made it all by myself. It took a lot more effort and time than I thought it should, but still: easy. It certainly tasted a billionty times better than anything from a tub or can.

Belated birthday cake for Mick. Those cherries on the top were ridiculously boozy.

Holy crap, is that a schwarzwalder kirschtorte? Those are my favorite, but I never get one on my birthday because I'm the only guy who can make them.
It would really be a grievous injustice if you didn't send me one also. I HAVE BIRTHDAYS TOO YOU KNOW. I'VE HAD A LOT OF THEM.

(It is pronounced like Lisa-Ray, but I also answer to Lisa Pea, which does rhyme with three. Because pea is a homophone for pee. I accept any pronunciation that gets me that cake, though, even the ones that rhyme with diarrhea, so I officially endorse that poem.)

Re: The Make Something Every Week Contest
It is, kind of. I always make Mick a red velvet cake with white chocolate icing for his birthday, but I play around with it. This time I added a few heaping soup spoons of cocoa to the red velvet cake mix (which probably means you don't want it anymore) and used 1/2 cup of the whipping cream to make white chocolate ganache that I whipped with the rest of the cream.
But the rest is traditional. I used tart cherries I had frozen this summer and thawed them in two cups of kirschwasser with 6 tablespoons of sugar. Hence the serious booziness of the garnish.
I doubt it would ship well, but if you PM me your address I would be happy to send you some of my Black Forest Cookies. I made that recipe myself and it also involves kirschwasser.

Re: The Make Something Every Week Contest
It's been long enough that I don't really remember how I came to name lisa as lisa pea. I sort of only remember her being all mad or something from another forum where we used to all be. She told everbody that her name was lisarea but that it was some stupid spelling mistake that she ended up with the username of lisapea but she was an adult and would sacrifice for us all so we wouldn't have to remember who she was if she changed it to match reality. So that's how I came to always call her lisapea even when I could see that her name is lisarea.
And that's how Equestria was made.

Re: The Make Something Every Week Contest
You want to hear some really mind-blowing shit, I have an actual meatworld friend named Lisa who is as tiny as a pea, and her nickname that her mom calls her has been Lisa Pea since before I even heard of another forum where we used to all be.
