Re: What's up with you?
There's supposedly an offer forthcoming from evil software company you have definitely heard of. Dog and Pony show paid off.
I'm in the final round of interviews at two other evil software companies you have definitely heard of. Four solid half-days of interviews that I am still fairly motivated to go through with, because they seem like cool jobs.
I'm feeling really good about it all.

Re: What's up with you?
One of my nieces is a Catholic nun who does charity work in Flint on a regular basis, and is being relocated there to work for the community full time. She recently got involved with an organization that serves "returning citizens" (people getting out of prison) by providing a 5-week educational program followed by 6 months of regular "life coaching" with a mentor of sorts, and she asked me if I would consider being a life coach. I was reluctant because the organization is run in association with Catholic Charities, but I don't know about any secular organizations running similar programs so I figured I'd give it a look. To that end I drove up to Flint with her (and two of my sisters) today, witnessed the graduation of their latest class, and met the director of Life Coaches. Alas, before my niece even mentioned that I might be interested in Life Coaching, she asked him what type of person makes a good Life Coach and he immediately replied that the first and most important criterion is that the person be a Christian. After we left my niece apologized profusely for "wasting my time" and said she was really disappointed that they would have that policy, especially since there is no religious requirement for their clients. But it wasn't a big shock to me, and frankly I'm relieved I don't have to drive to Flint a couple times a month and hang out with ex-cons. Fuckers don't deserve me.

Well, out on the Eastern plains of Colorado, we have high winds, and fire warnings.
The wind has our house creaking and groaning like an old ship on the sea.
The neighbor's barn just blew over and started rolling off. Hopefully, his cows weren't in it.

Re: What's up with you?
Now there's a person who doesn't know much about Finnish. Lots of vowels is the Finnish way. With lots of umlauts. Eg. Happy Easter is Hyvää pääsiäistä!
Kumpi oli ensin, kana vai muna?

I did admin work for a trading company ages ago, and when someone dictated a Finnish name for some correspondence, I thought they were kidding. So many vowels....

Re: What's up with you?
The longest palindrome word in any language is allegedly 'saippuakivikauppias', which is the Finnish name for person who sells lye (used to make soap). There's also the more dubious 'saippuakuppinippukauppias' - a 'soap cup dealer', if that's even a thing.

Re: What's up with you?
There's an even newer person on this chaotic project I'm on, and she's called Jo. However, "Joe with an e" isn't specific enough because her surname starts with E.
So I'm now JoeP.
As was foretold.

Re: What's up with you?
My old 2-in-1 finally died (one too many trips from the arm of the chair to the floor), so I replaced it with another refurb. That came with a 128GB hard drive. I had replaced the hard drive on the dead device with a 256GB drive; today, I took the 256GB drive out of the dead device and installed it in the new one. And it worked!

Meh.
My doctors switched my meds around, and I'm not sure they're working - she did say it would take some time for them to hit a therapeutic level. Still, meh. That's about where I am.

Re: What's up with you?
I flew to Boston for the weekend to see The Majority Report: The Big Live 2022. I was a bit Covid-nervous about the flying and being in a packed venue, but at least the latter part was mitigated by a vaccine and mask requirement at the event. The show was about 2 hours long and consisted of live music and special guests. I was in a very small, cramped space but only about 20' from the stage and dead center, so the view was great.
The special guests were Al Franken, Natalie Shure, and two members of Extinction Rebellion. The conversation was excellent and the experience of being in a theatre full of like-minded people was unlike any experience I've had before. It's just not the same as being in a venue full of people who like the same band or comedian. I'm not even a fan boy but I stood in line for a long time to get a signed shirt and a selfie with Sam and the crew. They really have helped me survive mentally and emotionally this past couple years.
Anyway if I remember I'll come back and post a link to the video of the event, but in the meanwhile have a few pictures I took while in Boston.

Re: What's up with you?
I still exist and I think about you guys all the time but I've been iffy on using the computer recreationally.
I did a vacation. I went to Lassen Volcanic National Park, where my mom is working this summer as a back country ranger. I have lots of stories and photos which I will share at some point in the not too distant future I hope.
I started my job on Monday. I have news and stories to share about that too. Talk again soon! xoxo

I didn’t think the puppy would actually pick up the 5 inch slug in the back yard, but he did and then dropped it in the house.
I had to wipe my hands off and wash them twice to get the slug slime off.

A lot of biological stuff is boring without stains and processes to highlight the protein structures hidden in it. I haven't tried.

Re: What's up with you?
It wasn't as dramatic as I was expecting--just a little too weird, like it seemed like the flavors clashed more than that they were overwhelming. So it was more like mildly unsettling than outright repulsive.
Maybe I should take a 'rona test, huh?
