Re: Climategate 2.0
A comedy sketch, but eerily realistic in some ways.

CLosing in on the big four oh oh. Arbitrary, really, but nice and round, anyway. 2015? Should we start a pool?

Eyeballing that, looks like the de-seasoned could even hit 400 before the end of '14. Which means the peak hits it the NH summer before that.

Re: Climategate 2.0
In the "This Shouldn't Surprise Anyone At All" department, we have this.
Climate-change deniers frequently use exactly the same "logic" as do Creationists. It's hardly surprising that there seems to be an awful lot of overlap between the two groups.

LOL, what is a "climate change denier"?
Do you know chaos theory? It goes like this. Give me a butterfly, and oops, where did that tornado come from?

That means explain or clarify.
As in, Beyelzu elucidated what he meant when he said elucidate by defining the word and then using it in a sentence.

I do. Do you?
Hint: That's not how chaos theory goes.

Re: Climategate 2.0
How does chaos theory "go"? Enlighten me, O professor. What is a strange attractor? Sorry, I was a bit rude. How many dimensions does it have? Start with Lorenz, Roessler, or Chua's attractor and explain. I'm all ears. And drunk. I've even downloaded the latest electronic chaotic attractors from the Chinese air force, no joke. I have some that go up to 75 MHz at least. I watch them on a three-colored oscilloscope while you explain all the details. And explain to me how they map one time dimension into four-momentum and Minkowski space.

What about automatic synthesis of multi-scroll attractors? They look really nice. Not that I care.

Professor, how do tripods go? Slow metachronal waves or black bars in swing phase? Quick, I need six more legs after my weekend. I can't turn on the milling machine right now because everyone's asleep.

Tell me about the Hassenstein-Reichardt model of motion detection. Is that all right or do I have to switch the high-pass filter and the low-pass filter?

Re: Climategate 2.0
I guess if you can make a Palinesque word salad of terms about chaos theory that totally supports a position that seems to boil down to "hey, there is a thing called chaos theory, fuck climatology."
and that is the most charitable interpretation of your position that I could think of.
Elucidate what your position is on climate change and how it relates to chaos theory.

Re: Climategate 2.0
Hmm. Let's see. Climate changes. The planet has fever. It's basically a state machine with two states. We should build thorium reactors to keep the machine running until we are out of the mess. See books by Mr. Lovelock, for example. All this stuff relates to chaos theory because of "weather", which is a physical process. Better? Do I need to spray formulas with mathematical hieroglyphs in them?

Readings are provisional, and daily values fluctuate anyway. The seasonally adjusted monthly is still the one to watch.

A fever is usually a bodies was of killing an infection, So if the planet has a fever it's probably trying to get rid of an infection, and the only one I can think of right now is people.

The 'butterfly effect' is popular nonsense, any small input can easily be drowned out by other larger inputs. Show me a million butterflies flapping their wings in unison in the same direction, and maybe you have something to consider.

Indeed. Some proponents of the "Gaia Hypothesis" more or less seriously claim that global warming is the planet's way of getting rid of us -- or more precisely, the industrial technology that is contributing to destabilization of the Earth's ecosystems.
Personally, I think that the Gaia Hypothesis is pretty-much nonsense on stilts, but I must admit that there's a certain poetic justice to the notion of us being done in by our own arrogant refusal to accept that our actions have consequences.
