Good god I could only watch 2 mins of that shite.

I like the new Doctor. Sou and I have started watching it again this season and we've been enjoying it.

I probably haven't seen more than about half a dozen episodes since the David Tennant run, so I can't say how good Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi were, but I like Jodie Whittaker so far.

My first The Doctor was David Tennant, so all others are measured against his run. A first season with a new The Doctor is always going to feel weird, for whatever reason. And it goes especially when it's coupled with a new show runner and new writers. Their first few episodes will feel like a little too much, then they'll get into the groove of whatever story (-ies) they want to tell and the character of this The Doctor will be formed. I'm p much over man-babbies crying about whatever man-babbies cry about nowadays. Let them wail and gnash their teeth and rend their grommets.

I never got into doctor who, mostly it wasn't on at the right times, so I'm seeing all of this from an outside prespective and um, have Doctor Who fans ever really watched Doctor Who? It's not like it's a serious and realistic show to begin with. I kinda think some people have some hardcore thick nostalgia glasses on if a woman doctor was when the show jumped the shark and couldn't be taken seriously anymore.

Something I might get lambasted for in the wrong audience: I wasn't that big a fan of Capaldi. Now, I think he's a fine actor and actually played the part well. But, I didn't much care for the stories his The Doctor was in. Not so much in an 'OMGOZOR DOGTOR WHO IS RUINT FOREVER' just "that was okay." But I find myself on the "that was just okay," opinion a lot lately, even things I might usually enjoy more.

I can confirm that last week they were found not guilty by a panel of 5 female judges.

Nothing to add on either story; I'm interested in the cringy use of 'females' here.

I've read other posts on the use of homosexual versus gay, and have it on good authority that the term homosexual has its roots in scientific denotation and a history of use in a negative sense, especially homosexuality as a disorder. She prefers to be referred to as 'gay'. That's okay, might as well get used to it.

Star Trek understood in the 80s that using the term 'female' can be cringy as hell. It's a scientific term, but unlike homosexual, it doesn't strike me as rooted in some derogatory baggage.

So I'll do the term swapping game.

I've heard before that this is a preferable use, but does this not also change the context?

I think female is fine as an adjective as long as it's relevant. It's using it as a noun* that's weird, especially when it's uneven, like "three men and two females."

* Unless it's an umbrella term for 'girls and women' like you'd use 'male' for 'boys and men.'

And "external anatomical characteristics". Wait, exactly which external features have those reproductive purposes?

I'm no anatomist but I'm pretty sure "providing eggs" is the job of the above-mentioned ovaries, and they are internal in the vast majority of, possibly all, ovary-having humans. And "receiving sperm" is the "job" of the egg in the uterus; again, quite commonly an internal anatomical feature. Correct me if I'm being too binary or over-generalising here.

I wonder if the authors of the bill possessed penises and testicles and were unable to think beyond them.

eta: Wait, that means no one is female in the terms defined by the bill, so it doesn't apply to anyone.
