Did you read what I wrote?
|
yep...it was this i addressed quickly on the first skim:
"There are several reasons that I, personally, wish to advertise my acceptance of biological science over magical religious non-explanations:"
|
OK, and that is equivalent to 'a competition as to who is better' how?

I'm not sure that's true. As I said to TJL earlier, in North America the most aggressive opposition to evolutionary science has come from Christians. So while I'm sure there are lots of different reasons people put Darwin Fish on their cars, to me the fish has always indicated more a rejection of the Christian anti-evolution movement than an attempt to offend Christians.

I was saying that if someone really only wanted to show that they believe in Evolution without taking a direct jab at christians, then they should have a unique symbol for evolution.

I've read a lot of discussions over the years about possible alternative labels and symbols, but IMO the Darwin Fish is close enough to innocuous to be perfectly suited to the task. Any Christian who's driven to vandalism or violence in response to seeing a Darwin Fish has serious issues that have nothing to do with me, as far as I'm concerned.

Hell, it could still be a fish with legs but does it have to be the same fish shape as the "jesus fish"? It seems to me that the darwin fish is more anti-christian than pro-evolution. Really, it does seem that the evolution and, on a bigger scale, scientific thought should have thier own symbols. Is there one that I don't know about?
|
Not that I'm aware of. Using some other fish shape with legs misses the whole point..it's an effective symbol because it borrow a familiar shape.

*sigh*
I give up. You're right, dude. I put a Darwin fish on my car to prove I have a bigger dick than any given Christian, except the one who was so hung he ripped it off and chipped my paint. Everyone but you is religious and lame.

Why have you gone round and round with people in this thread, TJL, if not to try to prove that you're opinion is better?

well i do think my opinion is better, but it's at least me against the world revolving around the topic of nothing. that makes me feel better, but then...that's me

it wasn't so much a dismissal as it was a loss for words to explain any further. i was also at work, so i was trying to keep things short. i might have gone into it further, but i see the atheists have already dismissed me, so why bother?

I saw a bumper sticker today that said:
4 out of 5 dentists make up 80% of the dentist population.
Made me chuckle.

 That's totally cool.
It still doesn't beat the my favourite one, popularised by the movie Falling Down ...

Re: Violence Over a Bumper Sticker
For the record: I am one Christian that does not find the Darwin fish offensive. I think it is pretty clever. Also, I don't have a Jesus fish on my car, or a cross, or any other religious or political symbol. My car is means of transportation, not a billboard.

I saw one while shopping last week:
"Religion is what keeps the poor from killing the rich."
