Re: If you could change one thing...
why does somebody need a button to ignore a thread that's not been opened? i mean seriously? i am really curious...doesn't it not being opened mean it is already being ignored?
why is there so much effort at helping people ignore? why not just allow this place to teach some tolerance? all this ignoring...is...ignorant

What was that you said on that other thread? Oh yeah, "i can't imagine anybody not interested taking the time to tell us they aren't interested "

ha!
but you still didn't answer my question.
isn't a thread unread, ignored? people don't want to read the titles? so you are basically helping people totally annihilate other forum members from their ff experience?
aren't we all the ff experience?
seriously...why more ignoring?

It's not "more ignoring". It's a feature we've had since the day we opened, only now there's a link in a new place. Why the new button? Because it was requested, we were technically able to provide it, and we don't have a problem with it.

Re: If you could change one thing...
If it's any consolation, Michael, even though I have you on ignore, I'm made aware that you have posted on a thread when I open a thread that I've previously been on and rather than the program starting me where I left off on the page, it brings me to the top. Better?

If we could just hide their online status and that they have ever posted anywhere at all, the virtual obliteration of the chronically pointless would be complete.

ah...it's just easier ignorance. got it.
well i didn't know that was available cuz it wouldn't have dawned on me to ask. i knew about being able to ignore members...
you should have a button to ignore the portal maybe? how about one to ignore ff entirely?
and i know you don't have a problem with it. thanks, leader!

I prefer to use the "New Posts" or "active last 24 hours" methods of reviewing what's been going on in the forum recently. Instead of the "forum" view, this brings up many thread titles from all different forums. I also prefer NOT to look at thread titles, no matter how popular they are with other folks, which I find offensive or disturbing for whatever reason. I can remember one in particular, whether it was on this forum or not I don't recall, about the finger found in the Wendy's chili. Call me "weak" if you want to, but it was a preference of mine NOT to view that thread title, even though, if I chose "New Posts," it would come again to the top, if was a hot topic and received lots of new replies. Same with some of the sexually suggestive (or even explicit) topics, I'd just really rather not see them. That's a preference of mine, nothing more. And if I could make that thread title go away WITHOUT having to actually on purpose choose to OPEN the thread that I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO SEE, that just makes it nicer for me. Purely a matter of personal taste. I don't have a problem with the taste of other people that WANT to see and post in that stuff. I just don't want to myself.
Seriously. You were curious; that's the answer, at least, it's MY answer to why someone would want it.

Re: If you could change one thing...
In case you didn't see my earlier post, we installed that feature today.
Just click the little button to the right of the thread title, and it'll vanish.

Yes, a thread that isn't being opened is being ignored, EXCEPT to the extent that the title still appears. Yes, it's because people do not (this person does not) want to read certain titles.
As far as I know, I have never "totally annihilate[d] other forum members" by ignoring some thread titles. Your hyperbole is showing.

P.S. Yes, vm, thanks I did see. I was explaining to Zeke why someone might want the feature.

"Visitors" seem inordinately interested in sex and nudity threads.
"Yahoo! Slurp Spiders" seem to be following the 'ignorethread' buttons.

You're welcome, Zeke. I don't think my reason is any more or less rational than anyone else's; I think it's most likely to be very much the same reason as other people might have to use such a feature. The commonality of human beings means that, I am sure, most people in general have feelings similar to mine. The individuality of human beings means that different people may be more or less sensitive to any particular stimulus. The feelings are recognizably the same, though they (the feelings) may be about different things, and the individuals (the people) may choose different strategies about how to handle those feelings.

Hey, Michael - those that want to use the ignore features can use them, and those that don't like the ignore features can ignore them. Easy peasy.
