It's a non-story, as far as I'm concerned. Yes, there's speculation that the Y chromosome will eventually be rendered "useless" by deleterious mutations, and ultimately eliminated by selection.

That does not mean that there will be no more men. We already know that the sex-determining SRY gene can be transposed to the X chromosome, and so -- if there is selective pressure to get rid of the Y chromosome (and so far, the evidence for this is anything but conclusive) -- what'll almost-certainly happen is the transposition of the SRY gene and the evolution of a new sex-determination mechanism. Or the species will go extinct -- and I'd like to float the idea that the extinction of our species will be no better for women than it is for men.

I spent the last 2 months being schooled, by my FtM "white" son and his visiting Afakasi (Somoan/white) girlfriend, about my woefully lacking understanding about 1) white male privilege, which adrien decidedly recognizes as tangible; 2) microagressions, which his g/f, a proud and loud WOC, pointed out at every opportunity...

it isn't that I do not care nor that I deny the reality of their worlds and the relevance of the topics, but I find myself exhausted by their unending attachment to anger... and I KNOW adrien learned from me that anger is the engine that drives social change when it is appropriately channeled to fuel passion... YES, says I, I says it, I do... go out there and demand that humanity be humane ... just give over a little, realizing if your only tool is a hammer, everything will look like a nail (basically, STFU once in a while)

that being said... I find this thread and its diverging topics to be quite refreshing... and just so you now, adrien is well past his first "manniversary" and firmly anchored in his transition... with a deeply melodious laugh that is to die for!

Yes, it can happen. When I was evaluated for suicide risk, the doctor asked me what I fancied myself doing, if I could do what I wanted. I said I would like to be a philosopher. The doctor got a disgusted look on his face and said, "That's ridiculous."

Crap like that happens.

That was deeply unprofessional and dismissive, but it's not quite the same thing as the scenario outlined above. The difference with Steven's scenario was that a psychologist or psychiatrist was allegedly trying to get him to conceal his emotions having been tasked with trying to assess his emotional state, which is not only unprofessional but counterproductive and tantamount to malpractice. The doctor in your case was being a stupid shit in a dissimilar if just as bad way.
