Grocery run yesterday, I spent nearly 10 minutes at the vitamin aisle looking for Zinc.
Turns out that there was a run on it.
Who'da thunk it?

I yielded to the panics today and bought a packet of toilet paper I don't yet need.

Since you have been maintaining for several years how perfect your flat is for defence in the event of a (the) zombie apocalypse, I don't think this is a new thing.

Well, no. But I usually only have one bumper pack pf TP on hand at a time, it is not a big flat.
And the zombie defence capabilities was something the realtor failed to appreciate, so I got it for a steal, really.

I received an email from our cruise line (departing next month) everyone is screened for fever prior to boarding and if they have one - them and their travel companions are sent for another exam- and any virus suspicions - denied boarding.
I may be on a living on a floating petri dish.

The head of the National Economic Counsel wants you to know that there is no "Take precautions against the spread of coronavirus" in "Team."
We're now up to 4 presumptive positives here in Lolorado, which likely means dozens if not hundreds of undetected cases.

Re: Winnie the Flu
I am flying to London in about 12 days and all the flights with the same flight number as mine have been cancelled starting the day after I fly there. No info as of yet of the flights with my return flight number. Considering bringing my work laptop just in case I get stranded.
This general panicking and the companies reacting to that is really starting to chafe me now. My daughter was let down by that the moto GP she was hoping to watch was cancelled today because so many of the contestants are from Italy and are therefore not allowed to enter Qatar at the moment.
I mean I suppose we should be happy that people are travelling less, for the environment and all? But we all know it will be short-term and they will be right at it in a few months if any of the airlines have survived.
Also, Wuhan has been hit the hardest, right, with about 70 000 cases? The population of Wuhan is something like 11 million. That means approximately 0.0064 % of the people at the epicentre have been infected. Is that maths right? Can it possibly be right? Seems like it would be a lot more based on the... well, everything.
ETA: soz, I just turn ugly and lash out when anything affects me personally. I am sure this is all super-serious and we SHOULD, in fact, be doing anything and everything to stop it, and I an the one being unreasonable for wanting to continue life as before with travel and all.

And in dubiously related news, in looking for a Finland joke to post I learned that it's Finns who coined the name Molotov Cocktail.

Apology not required. In fact if you didn't apply different standards to yourself I would want to know why.
Personally, I'm thinking that poor suffering airlines need me to do my bit to support them during this crisis. At least the ones that fly London-Helsinki.

China has been putting a ton of resources into their response (unlike the Trump administration). They likely have slowed the infection rate a bit, and that seems to be the case from reporting.
The problem is that without that massive response, the number of infected will grow exponentially. But exponential doesn't mean you get to millions over night. It means hundreds turns to thousands after a couple weeks. It would still take months to get to millions of infections even if you don't mobilize a response.
The US had single digit numbers of confirmed* cases at the beginning of February, now we have hundreds. By this time next month, it may be in the tens of thousands, and by the summer it could be in the millions if we don't slow the spread.
*Given how shitty the Trump administration has been at ramping up testing, it's possible all these numbers should basically be increased by an order of magnitude. We probably have over a thousand, if not multiple thousands, of cases in actuality.

Googling "bathtub race London to Helsinki" offered no helpful options.
