Quite a bit, recently. I just finished watching a series that HBO ran a few years back that covered the period of Julius Caesar's rise to power, destruction, and Octavian's early career. Very well done, and enjoyable. In particular, following Marc Anthony's rise and eventual demise was a hoot.

Octavian was a nasty little fucker. (according to the series, anyway. )

But, yeah, somebody is almost ALWAYS bringing up Rome for some damned reason or another. We, here in the good ol' US of A, seem infatuated with the Roman Republic.
Hail Caesar!

[we get that a lot of that out here in the Boonies]

I would like to spiritually cast a vote for a specific person whom we all know who thinks about the Roman Empire more than multiple times per day. More than enough times to make up for any person who doesn't think about it at all.

Multiple times a week, because we watch Jeopardy! every day. No idea what's going on with the internet currently, though.

Some weeks back a person on the clickclock asked the internet: Ask your man how often he thinks about the Roman Empire. A lot of the replies/stitches were shocked and amazed at how often random men thought about the Roman Empire. The meme that sprang up behind it was "[This thing] is my Roman Empire." Yes, initially, it was quite sexist in assuming that it was just men who did all this thinking about the Roman Empire.

Yes, I intentionally removed the sexism.

The trend was all over my TikTok feed for a week or so a few weeks ago, but not since. The last video I saw on the topic was some guy ripping all the guys claiming to be thinking about it every day as basically ubermensch posers.

I have been thinking about it daily because I'm currently reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and I probably think of it more often than many because I read The History Blog daily, but otherwise I don't have any great fascination with it.

It's "Romulan" and yes, about twice a day on average.

I'm such a nerd. After posting my reply, I googled for roman empire to try to figure out what was going on.

I got this news story, and I was like, oh, I see! This is obviously what that poll was in response too. :unnod:

Ancient Balkan genomes trace the rise and fall of Roman Empire's frontier, reveal Slavic migrations - Phys.org
