Re: Isolation diaries
I've been taking nigh-daily walks around the neighborhood as part of my rehab. Today as I walked down a short hill, a man across the street opened his front door, and his little dog (about the size of Toto in Wizard of Oz) zipped across the street and started barking furiously at me. Then he bit me in the calf (fortunately, through my jeans).

So it gave me the covid jab beat down a few hours after the jab instead of the next day. I took two Advil, a shower, and a nap and now feel… fine? A little sore at the injection site but doing alright?
Will see how it goes tomorrow but I suspect my immunity HQ spotted it immediately and said, “Not this asshole again.” And took it quietly out back and shot it.

Re: Isolation diaries
I had mine on Friday around noon, and I had expected any effects to start about 12 hours later as they had the previous times, but it wasn't until Saturday afternoon that I was hit with dizziness and fatigue. Lasted a few hours, fine by Sat evening again.

Re: Isolation diaries
We got boosted last Friday (I think bey said that already). Pretty much almost zero side-effects for me. Just tenderness at the injection site.
I was of course tired and cranky for like 5 days after, but that's normal.

Re: Isolation diaries
I'll buy that, except for the part about arm pain (probably exactly because that's the one side-effect I listed). But literally, they jabbed a needle into my flesh. That shit hurts.

Re: Isolation diaries
Yeah, that’s one of my problems with the ‘placebo’ group being an actual injection. I feel like they need an additional group that was made to look away, had a poke with a pencil lead then had a bandage put on and a now empty syringe discarded, etc. As the placebo group still had a needle puncture their skin and a foreign body injected, I don’t see why that’s being seen as a non-event as related to if their body is going to react to it.

Re: Isolation diaries
So son warned me beforehand he was bringing his girlfriend over to introduce us (they are doing a multi-household run today of meet the parents) so I baked. Cinnamon roll-type things.
Like a real mother or some shit.
I realized too late that I don't have any of that "tea" that the natives here like before they get addicted to coffee. Dug out some ancient Twinings fruity bags which did the job ok, I guess.

It's Heli, which is okay, I just think of helicopter.
Daughter's bf name is Jere, which is the teen from the comic strip Zits, so I can deal with that too.

Re: Isolation diaries
Rant. But remote work and isolation adjacent.
-----------------------
A week ago my car broke. Or stopped starting, whatever. I no longer have the inner fortitude to keep dealing with it, so I am giving it up. But then I don't seem to have the emotional strength required to get it removed either, even though there are services that will take a scrap car off your hands for free. It has a full tank, so close to 100€ worth of diesel in it, so that is my excuse for just letting it sit for now.
This, however, means that my commute - when I do go in, and I do have to sometimes - is 90-120 minutes long each way instead of 46 min, because a couple of decades ago I decided living in the town of my ancestors instead of in civilization would be a Good Idea.
I went in to the office twice(!) this past week, as if to prove to myself that I am strong and independent and don't need no stupid car that just gives me anxiety and never-ending insurance and tax bills anyway. Told myself I enjoyed playing crush games on my commute instead of being hyper-alert and paranoid about suicidal deer, but that is quite possibly a lie to shut up my brain.
BUT
An hour ago I picked up my work headphones and they broke. Just fecking snapped in two near one earpiece.
And my work is phone-based, to a large part. Feck.
So now I have to decide whether to - after two mornings of sleeping until 10 - catch the 5:20 bus tomorrow morning to get to work for my 7 o'clock shift, hoping there will be spares at the office (I don't think there are any new ones, but might be some left by a colleague who quit), OR manage to get by for a few hours with my super-crap Skype headset until I can hop on a bus and get to the electronic store once the lazy bastard opens at 10 and buy myself some 150€ replacements. Feck. I clearly do not have the backbone required to be an adult.
Another issue is, the bus companies are in open war with each other, so the affordable and convenient phone app tickets are only valid on one of the four operators, so not even one bus per hour.
And now I am covered in dried superglue because I panicked and tried to Fix Unfixable Things.

Have you been tested? Also for possible poisoning by dioxin, polonium or novichok?

Yes the pcr test today was positive! So probably no novichok.

First time I have tried to get iodine tablets, and they are completely sold out in every pharmacy in the country.

Being the first time, can you rule out the possibility that they've been sold out for years?

They started selling out after Chernobyl was taken two days ago. To saturate your thyroid with iodine if/when radiation approaches?

Schindler's List was scheduled to air on TV tonight, but has been replaced by King Kong because they "need to show something lighter".
