"But Hunny, I was asleep..."
Last month a Norwegian court sentenced a woman to nine months in jail for raping a man. It was the first such conviction in the Scandinavian country that prides itself for its egalitarianism.
The 31-year-old man fell asleep on a sofa at a party in January last year only to wake up to finding the 23-year-old woman having oral sex with him. Under Norwegian law, all sexual acts with someone who is "unconscious or for other reasons unable to oppose the act" are considered rape.
The court sentenced the woman to nine months jail and ordered her to pay 40,000 crowns in compensation. The prosecutor had sought a 10-month sentence and argued the court shouldn't be more lenient with a woman than a man.
Well, I guess many of you men will be reading this and having a little chortle as you think, "Oh sure, I would love to wake up to a 23 year old woman giving me a blow job!”
So, can a man really be raped, or be taken advantage of sexually, by a woman?
Most men would say, with physiological confidence, that if a man doesn't want to have sex, he can't possibly be forced into it. Human anatomy provides him with a special protection. Clearly, however, this isn't always so.
Generally, we tend to think of men as simply "too big," "too strong," "too much in control," and/or "too much into sex" to be sexually assaulted by a woman. However, to be coerced or aroused into sex, only to later regret it, surely amounts to sexual assault.
While I believe the said 23 year old female may not have actually 'raped' her 'victim', in the usual sense of the word, I'm she sure as hell she took full advantage of him with potentially very harmful consequences both physically and emotionally.
Consider the following scenarios:
What if she'd had an infection on her lips (Herpes) or in her mouth (Gonorrhoea)?
What if she'd sucked off another man, just prior, who had an infection?
What if she had caused him to ejaculate, used his semen to inseminate herself, and then later slapped him with a paternity suit?
What if he was married and his wife walked in on the act?
What if he was a devoutly religious man?
What if he just simply didn't want to be blown off, while he slept off a good night out, for goodness sake?
Just like women, men need to be discerning about their partner's sexual history, health, habits, and motives.
I leave you to ponder.

I don't think most men would say this.

Welll, that's not entirely true...if it's another man doing the raping then that doesn't offer any protection at all. That'd open up a whole 'nother can of worms in the psychological harm department, too

Special protection? What's that? A limp dick? What if a guy gets an erection during a dream? It happens.

Men with proper functioning equipment get multiple erections every night. Dream or no dream.

All right, allow me to clarify that and say, "...if a man doesn't want to have sex with a woman..."
As for impossible involuntary erections, as a woman, that was pure conjecture on my part. Therefore, I stand corrected by the gentlemen who have responded to this post.

And it is not just sleep. Men can have erections even when they don't want to have sex. Just like you may salivate even if you don't want to eat.

Sure, but I think it's reasonable that she got a relatively light penalty. I don't know how things are in Norway, but here in America I think sexual abuse is probably significantly more traumatizing for women than for men and thus generally speaking deserves a harsher penalty. I haven't really given it a lot of thought though, so I could probably be persuaded to reconsider.

The question is a bit complex, yes ?
For a start, any healthy penis can be manipulated into erection through manual closing off of the exit vein; IOW, pressure on the right spot means an erection, involuntarily. That then can be used.
Apart from that, sexual abuse of course can happen in a large variety of other ways, and often does.

Those men are wrong. A friend of mine (more like a friend of a friend, really) was raped while intoxicated - and possibly drugged, he's not sure. Basically, a woman dragged him into a closet, he passed out for a moment, and woke up as she was taking advantage of him. I can't think of a word other than rape.
