I woke up at about 3:00 AM for no apparent reason, started scrolling TikTok, and landed on a live broadcast of the parliament meltdown. I watched it for a while not really understanding what I was watching, but definitely had the sense that wild things are happening over there.

They resigned from posts in the cabinet. They didn't resign as MPs. That would imply some kind of integrity. (Actually it would imply they believed they had done something wrong themselves. Like sexual offences in office. Only about 3 have done that. This year.)

The reason they finally turned against Boris, was that they were ordered, by Boris's team, to go out and defend him in media interviews by telling lies about how much Boris knew about the history of the sex predator (a friend of Boris) who Boris had given a government job too. This is normal behaviour for ministers, of course, but on this occasion the lies were particularly transparent and quickly unravelled with Boris having to apologize with the explanation, "I forgot - I'm a busy man, you know, you can't expect me to remember every tiny detail."
The ministers have long known that Boris is a compulsive liar: he'd been sacked when a journalist for making up news stories, and a former Tory leader had sacked him from a junior political job for lying about one of his mistresses.
But the ministers didn't mind that. They were happy for Boris to lie to the electorate; to the Queen, to his wives and girlfriends, but they didn't like Boris lying to them - at least not when those lies weren't good ones that would remain undiscovered for a reasonable time.
So Boris had to go, and the mechanism they used to force him to go was by mass resignation of government ministers till there were insufficient ministers in post to allow the country to be governed.
Most Tory ministers are vehemently against public workers going on strike, but they're happy to do it themselves without feeling the slightest twinge of hypocrisy or guilt.

A beacon of hope for stupid people. You might think that being stupid would prevent you from getting a well paid job, but here is Truss: a cabinet minister, traveling the world as Foreign Secretary, and hoping to become the next British Prime Minister.
Things have changed in our modern world: it's no longer necessary to be musically talented to become a musical superstar; acting talent is not necessarily a prerequisite to land a top job in Hollywood*, and thick people can now do jobs where intelligence would once have been a requirement.
* Nicholas Cage, for example.

The shortlist has been shortened to two: Rishi Sunak, short of stature, short of understanding; and the above-mentioned Liz Truss, short of ideas, short of speaking ability.

Truss's first tweet, after becoming a finalist, said that she was "ready to hit the ground from day one."
The tweet was deleted and retweeted with the word 'running' inserted between 'ground' and 'from'. I expect her keepers will be managing her tweets from now on...

Having observed Liz Truss from a healthy distance for a little while, I wonder if there's some sort of gender equity achievement in having a very stupid woman credibly contending to replace a surprisingly stupid man. Like, I never got the sense that Theresa May is exceptionally dim. Truss could really inspire other stupid women in the UK that they no longer have to do better than stupid men to achieve. (The US far outpaces most countries in this particular dimension of gender equality, at least in one specific party.)

Saw an article that said the MPs prefer Sunak, but the membership prefers Truss... I've been saying since the start that Sunak can't win because the Tory membership is too racist. I guess we'll see.

Sunak was also the chancellor in charge of our 'levelling up' agenda, with a billionaire wife who paid zero tax. And he was fined for attending a partygate party.
Both Sunak and Truss propped up Boris throughout his reign, and Truss remains his Foreign Secretary to this day.

Question, what happens now to Boris, does he slink back to one of his mistress’s house or is he still a major part of the conservative party, just not in the PM hot seat?

His view is probably "still indispensable". Everybody else was only a fan because they believed he could win elections. So, there will be slinking.
