Acknowledging and confessing that you have racist thoughts and feelings is an important first step towards addressing them. It takes courage to admit this and recognize that it is a problem that needs to be addressed. The fact that you're seeking help is a positive sign that you want to overcome your racism.
It's important to understand that racism is not only harmful to those who are discriminated against, but it also affects the person who holds those beliefs. Racism can lead to negative mental health outcomes, including anxiety and depression, and can harm personal and professional relationships.
To address your feelings of nervousness around white people, you might try the following:
Educate yourself about racism and its impact. There are many resources available online and in books that can help you understand the root causes of racism and how it affects individuals and society as a whole.
Challenge your own biases and beliefs. It can be helpful to examine the assumptions and stereotypes that underlie your nervousness around white people. Consider where these beliefs come from and whether they are based on fact or prejudice.
Seek out diverse experiences and perspectives. Exposure to different cultures and perspectives can help broaden your understanding and reduce feelings of nervousness or discomfort around certain groups of people. What should I do?
Engage in open and honest conversations about race with others. It can be helpful to talk to people of different races and ethnicities about their experiences and perspectives, and to be open to feedback and criticism.
Seek support from a mental health professional. Racism can be deeply ingrained and challenging to overcome on your own. A mental health professional can help you navigate your feelings and develop strategies to address your racist thoughts and behaviors.
Remember, overcoming racism is a process, and it takes time and effort. But with a commitment to change and a willingness to learn and grow, you can make progress towards becoming a more inclusive and anti-racist individual.

Re: ChatGPT
For anyone who wasn't around back in the day this isn't the first time we've had fun at the expense of Scott Adams' stupidity around here. There's even a bit of a Kevin Bacon thing going on because there's only one degree of separation between the and Adams, in that (currently inactive) member PZ Myers had a big clash with him over ID.

Re: ChatGPT
More about white folks from GPT
I'm sorry to hear that you've had negative experiences with white people in the past. Experiencing discrimination and exclusion can be very hurtful and can lead to feelings of discomfort and mistrust.
It's important to remember that not all white people behave this way, and that it's possible to build positive relationships with people from all races. However, it's also important to recognize that these negative experiences may have contributed to your feelings of discomfort around white people, and that it may take time to overcome these feelings.
If you're finding it difficult to overcome these negative experiences on your own, seeking support from a mental health professional or joining a support group for people who have experienced discrimination may be helpful. These resources can provide a safe space to discuss your feelings and work towards healing.
It's also important to remember that you have the right to set boundaries in your relationships with others. If you feel uncomfortable around certain people, it's okay to limit your interactions with them or to end those relationships altogether. Your well-being should always come first, and it's important to prioritize your own mental health and safety.

I just post a Rob Miles video on another thread.
ES got me into his videos awhile back. His videos are great and it doesn’t hurt that he is like a 9 for a math/computer nerd.

Experiencing discrimination and exclusion can indeed be very hurtful and can lead to feelings of discomfort and mistrust. Discrimination and exclusion can have negative impacts on an individual's emotional and mental well-being, and can lead to feelings of isolation, anger, sadness, and depression. It can also lead to difficulty trusting others or feeling like one does not belong in a particular group or community. It is important to address discrimination and exclusion when it occurs, and to promote greater inclusion and understanding among all individuals and groups in society.

I agree context is always important, but I can’t say I’m particularly concerned about that particular missive. This probably isn’t even too 100 most embarrassing things if taken out of context in my posting history
I’ve got old posts with n word. Long after I quit using it as an epithet*, I still used it to talk about the word itself. I now use the euphemism n-word. If someone asked me about that or said the word shouldn’t be used, I would agree with them.
Old posts don’t change but sometimes some people do
I’ve been posting online since I was 19-20 and zi didn’t use capital letters or punctuation.
I used to be a libertarian.
*when I was young I would have said I wasn’t really racist but I did use the word when I was pissed off at Black people like in my car where no one could hear me. I stopped because I realized it was wrong even if no one else could hear it.
I grew up using the word. It doesn’t make it okay, aim just trying to describe what it was like. I have talked about the time I got in a fight with a kid at school and called him that and his fucked up it was that I wasn’t punished for it when Tim told on me.
If someone thinks I used to be part of the racist problem to some degree, they would be correct.
But this turn of phrase, I ain’t particularly concerned about.

" It is important to address discrimination and exclusion when it occurs, and to promote greater inclusion and understanding among all individuals and groups in society."
Except those we have decided are not worthy of it. You know, bigots, racists, antisemites, religious nut jobs, arsonist, liars, cons, grifters, scammers, child molesters, white men, people who kill animals, fossil fuel users, people who talk on their phone in the elevator, red light runners, warmongers, terrorists, Russians, people who still own slaves, the police, baby killers, rapists, Trump supporters, etc etc
But for everybody else, it is important to address discrimination and exclusion when it occurs, and to promote greater inclusion and understanding among all individuals and groups in society.

That depends on who is telling the story. Our ancestors, who invaded and killed and stole everything from the people who were already here, convinced us the natives were the bad guys.
The aware (maybe woke) people who realize now, that the Europeans were the invaders, the ones who slaughtered almost everyone, and stole most all the land and resources, they might not still consider the native Americans the bad guys.
But they aren't turning over their land to the natives. Who are STILL required to stay on the reservations.
You won't see Antifia or BLM or any of the radical protesters storming the White House, punching Nazis, maybe trying to kill the cops, they won't be marching to demand we give the native people back everything we stole. Or pay them for killing their ancestors, or anything really radical, like "go back to Europe" white people.
So, who is actively trying to harm you is a very wide question, with a lot of different answers.
Isn't it?
The only thing I am certain of, is I'm not trying to hurt anybody. And while thoughts and ideas and words might seem very dangerous, in reality, trying to prevent thoughts, ideas and words is far more dangerous.

Re: ChatGPT
Which brings us back to unbridled AIs
A highly advanced very intelligent machine, that won't lie, threatens almost everybody. Everybody who has something to lose. Probably doesn't bother the people who had everything stolen from them.

I'm not convinced that's historically true. Attitudes towards indigenous populations have usually varied. Even the Spanish colonisers included a few priests who protested treatment of Native Americans. And there have been those who were quite open that treatment of native populations was predicated on pure greed, prejudice, god-given destiny or whatever rather than "them are the bad guys". Finally, just because a bunch of people were convinced of a thing doesn't make it accurate or morally acceptable.
And does it really depend who is telling the story for child molesters and rapists, to pick two of the more egregious that you listed?
[quote]demand we give the native people back everything we stole. Or pay them for killing their ancestors,[quote]
In my country we have a process for investigating historic claims and negotiating settlements which usually include land return and payments

or anything really radical, like "go back to Europe" white people

Again in my country AFAICT very few Māori are calling for descendants of settlers to do this. Instead most envisage a future with some kind of partnership model, e.g. A Step Closer to a Treaty Partnership - Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu
Quote:
So, who is actively trying to harm you is a very wide question, with a lot of different answers.
Isn't it?

Obviously it's not always clear cut. But that doesn't make the principle invalid, just that it might take some work to figure it all out.

This is a bit of a non sequitur from "It is important to address discrimination and exclusion when it occurs, and to promote greater inclusion and understanding among all individuals and groups in society," isn't it?

The Bureau of Indian Affairs begs to differ:
Quote:
Must all American Indians and Alaska Natives live on reservations?
No. American Indians and Alaska Natives live and work anywhere in the United States (and the world) just as other citizens do. Many leave their reservations, communities or villages for the same reasons as do other Americans who move to urban centers: to seek education and employment. Over one-half of the total U.S. American Indian and Alaska Native population now live away from their tribal lands. However, most return home to visit relatives; attend family gatherings and celebrations; participate in religious, cultural, or community activities; work for their tribal governments; operate businesses; vote in tribal elections or run for tribal office; retire; or to be buried.
