Default Retirement planning

Along with my doomsday preparing I’m also thinking of retirement locales. I’m seriously considering, to the dismay and advisement of every single family member of mine, to looking into retiring in Mexico. The climate is a plus and my dollar would go far and I’ve been reading that people are doing it.

But my family says I’d need to be loaded enough anyway to afford security. O think it’s worth looking in to? Thoughts? I’m serious with this.

I'd be glad to make up a bunch of shit. I know nothing about it.

One of my sister's best friends "retired" to Honduras in her early 40s. (She was movie-star good looking and married some really wealthy person.) She died young via an aggressive infection from a minor injury. Whenever I think of this, I wonder if the infection was so aggressive because it was a bacteria she had never been exposed to — that something a native Honduran might have fared better against because it was already part of their microbiome.

I don't have the facts, and they had quality private healthcare (being wealthy), so I don't think being in the US would have helped her recover any better.

Well, sorry I didn't have much to offer. After the Mrs.' medical adventures of the last 3 years, or so, I have about enough money in our savings to keep me able to rent a small room in the Ninth Ward in New Orleans for a couple years.

I'd suggest looking at the medical offerings in Mexico before you head down there. You want to retire where you can get basic medical care and survive random infections.

Thanks . That’s a reasonable concern. My friend went to Guatemala on a mission trip and they had to be escorted by the law wherever they went. But I am thinking more of a coastal town in Mexico but sadly it sounds like in those places (less third world more touristy) might not give me the bang for my buck I’m looking for. My closest relatives would be my sisters family in Houston and I’ve yet to have grandchildren and I would not want to be far away from that.
