I have had exactly one hot flash, but it was unmistakable. I am pretty heat sensitive, so I'm always hotter than everyone else, in more ways than just the one you already knew, but it was not like that at all. I don't know how typical that is, but the absence of a blast furnace swallowing me up was all the evidence I needed that it was just me.

Also, nothing came of it. That was years ago, and my stupid guts are apparently still chugging along for no logical reason.

I am really enjoying this essay on menopause, There Won't Be Blood. Partly because we share the same primary symptom of insomnia, which I don't hear as much about as other symptoms. But mainly because she's a truly good writer.

My favourite advice was on the value for menopausal symptoms of a nice, hot bath with Taoist oils (no idea). There was a picture of an antique bathtub and an inspirational quote – “There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them”, from Sylvia Plath. The Sylvia Plath. That well-known life coach.

So I am having the sort of cramps today that make me wonder who the hell I pissed off in a former life. Also hormones, wtf? Why did you decide that this was gonna be the year to run me through another bout of acne? FFS I'm nearly 40!

This is almost a trivial thing that amuses me, but I'm saving it special just for the laydeez.

I got these pads that are extra-long, and they are not symmetrical front to back (the wings are off-center), so there are pictures printed into the pad to help you out. There are wavy lines in the front, which didn't really mean anything to me, but in the back there is an asterisk * to let you know it goes in the back!

Whenever I put it on, I can't help but imagine my pad is giving me a little kiss right there on my own asterisk. Fucking kills me every time.

In this week's edition of "Welcome to the Club, Pal" I am here to say that literally nobody gives a shit about old or aging women.

Y'all know Clue? The period tracking app?

When Apple put out their Health app and it didn't include a period tracker, everybody was like "Use Clue! It's the industry standard for period tracking"

When the fascist anti-woman government wanted to start sending women to jail for missing periods, everybody was like "Use Clue! They encrypt your data, they're not even in the US, and they promise not to cooperate with US law enforcement"

So, needless to say, I use Clue. I've been pre/peri-menopausal going on 4 years, and tracking my cycle and other symptoms is getting increasingly important for my health management.

Does Clue have anything to support pre- and peri-menopausal women specifically? Nope!

Unless you are either trying to get pregnant or trying not to get pregnant, Clue does not give a shit about your needs.

No point to this. Just complaining.
