I think this is the most that could follow, but presumably something akin to personhood would also be needed; "human life" broadly applies to a shed skin cell, too, and doesn't mean much to the state on its own. But even if we read "person" for "human life" -- a huge allowance -- the p.f. protection from the state is widely seen as defeated in precisely cases like pregnancy, for reasons argued most vividly and famously by Judith Jarvis Thomson: the state's mandate to look out for the well-being of an adult citizen does not plausibly extend to compelling me to remain hooked up to that citizen by tubes for 9 months, not even if it would kill that citizen for me to disconnect the tubes.
|
Thanks, I should've talked about that when I was talking about arguments against, seeing as I just used some excerpts from her essay in discussing the matter with a relative half a week ago... I probably also should've been clearer in the first part - by "natural next step" I just meant that a lot of people think that way when they believe "life begins at conception." I didn't mean to make it sound anything other than erroneous for various reasons, including the above.
I can only offer exhaustion as an excuse, working nights over the weekend and not being able to stay on a night schedule despite working nights over the weekend for more than a year now...

I think this goes in here too:
Women's prison mass jail break after inmates in dominatrix gear handcuff male guards expecting 'mass orgy' - Mirror Online
Quote:
Twenty-eight inmates escaped from a Brazilian jail after three women in fantasy police costumes "seduced" prison wardens, it was reported today.
Police found three wardens naked and handcuffed inside the Nova Mutum public jail, near Cuiaba, central Brazil, the morning after the mass break-out.
The women reportedly drugged the prison guards by giving them spiked whisky after convincing them to take part in an orgy, according to investigators.
Inmates then left the prison through the main doors, even taking with them guns and munitions they had taken from prison caches.

Jordanian air strike on Raqqa, Syria, kills a hostage held by ISIS. She is remembered in Palestine where she was before: Bil’in activists remember Kayla Mueller, her time in Palestine | +972 Magazine
Quote:
Kidnapped by Da’esh (ISIS), American human rights activist Kayla Mueller was killed recently, allegedly in a Jordanian air strike on one of the terror organization’s bases in Syria. Before heading to Syria, Mueller was also active in the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel, largely under the auspices of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). Her friends here in Palestine and Israel are pained, but remember her as a woman who symbolized the uncompromising struggle for justice and peace.

Re: News Miscellany
This is funny
I must say I enjoy the Sheriff's department's playfully worded post
Quote:
Time for another featured warrant of the week! BCSO is looking to apprehend ANDREW DALE MARCUM on numerous warrants. He has previously been known to reside on Route 4 in Lemon Township, but also tends to commit crimes in Hamilton and Middletown.
The highlight of his recent criminal past involves burglary / safe-cracking (a Felony 2). He's also been dabbling in abduction (F2), assault (M1), domestic violence (M1), criminal endangering (M1) and he has some bench warrants.
|
Then the dude responds to the post.
Quote:
Andrew Marcum: I ain't tripping half of them don't even know me
|
And the reply to that is:
Quote:
Butler County Sheriff's Office: Andrew Marcum - If you could stop by the Sheriff's Office, that'd be great.
|
Then this exchange
Quote:
Albert Dunaway: Lol i find this funny.... robo cops sending out speeding tickets meanwhile, our boys in blue track down criminals on FB and attempt to convince them to "come on down!"
Butler County Sheriff's Office: Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask.
|
I want to meet the deputy or whomever is doing their FB posting, lol
|

Leak in Germany spy agency!
Germany's Watergate!
BBC News - German BND spy agency hit by 'Watergate' leak
Yes, taps were "removed" (ie stolen) from the BND's unfinished new headquarters, partially flooding the building.
Quote:
Others have begun to wonder whether BND really stands for "Bin nicht dicht" which translates literally as "Am not sealed. Certainly not waterproof", but colloquially means "Not all there".

Re: News Miscellany
That just means fewer pilots will be flying more drones.

Re: News Miscellany
Technically yes. This information is being released now as part of a careful plan to get us ready for the wonderful and exciting news that fully automated AI units will be able to handle all this stressful and poorly-rewarded drone-piloting. So zero pilots will be flying many more drones.
The AI units will be programmed with foolproof versions of Asimov's 3 laws of robotics. For a suitable definition of "human", that is.

Jagger dog death: Kennel Club investigates reports of six poisonings at Crufts - Telegraph
Quote:
Mylee Thomas, whose Shetland sheepdog Myter Eye to Eye is thought to have been poisoned the day after Irish setter Jagger was killed by poisoned meat, said she thought her dog was deliberately targeted by someone with expert knowledge of the breed, but Jagger had been the victim of a random attack carried out by someone else.
Other exhibitors believe Jagger’s killer may have randomly targeted the Westie, the Afghan and the Shih Tzu. The Kennel Club said it was aware of the reports of six poisonings and was urgently looking into the matter.
Mrs Thomas said: “The setter was poisoned the day before my bitch, and I don’t think there is a link between the two. I think that one [Jagger] was someone who had randomly targeted them because a lot of people don’t agree with Crufts.”
|
Disagreement with dog shows leads to poisoning dogs? Or, competitive envy?? I hate people still.

Animal rights activists kill dogs all the time. That was my first thought, that it was PETA or something.

I'm looking forward to the next 2 years of deterioration of ties between Israel and the US or at least the US Democrats: Libs 'saddened' that Netanyahu camp sees win as blow to Obama - National Policy & Issues | Examiner.com
In other news miscellany: provincial elections here. The provincial parliaments then elect the First Chamber of Parliament (aka Senaat) which checks laws before they become law and occasionally (like a couple of months ago) says 'NO!' And apparently the ruling coalition could very well lose their majority there (even though they lost that vote even with a majority). So I hope so because I'm sick of these guys.
