I’m clearly pessimistic about what seems like the tightening of the wagon around their prey areas by making more and more reasons to bump undesirables up against authority figures behind closed doors. From Anti-trans bans that require a doctor to verify women’s genitalia before they’re allowed to play sports to the previous bill that treats taking a minor across state lines to prevent child pregnancy as a crime, unless you have bumped that minor up against authority figures in closed doors, to Tennessee’s governor giving teachers the ability to carry weapons at school.

The design is to keep bumping people up against authority until they are broken and either die or conform, while rewarding those who tow the line with tiny fiefdoms of their own where they can abuse those below them like those above abuse them.

It all reminds me of how the Taliban don’t punish women for being uncovered, they punish the men with them and let the men punish the women behind closed doors however they want.

This situation is extremely dangerous and I don't use that term lightly. If allowed to stand, if SCOTUS rules in favor of this ruling, it destroys the authority of the FDA.

Any drug, any medical treatment, will be at the mercy of random jurists who take up such cases. Vaccines. Medications. Physical therapy. Surgery. Psychiatry. You name it, it'll be on the chopping block, although I cynically expect that the rulings would be in favor of whatever stock the jurists or lolyers and politicians hold in competing drugs or therapies, or in favor of whatever money and power they can leverage from it.

There would emerge a black market in medications that would make the fentanyl problem even worse.

Mostly for optics, they’re moving too fast, the supreme court overreaching to ban a treatment federally would have crushed the GOP. There’s essentially no reason beyond authoritarian control. I tried to read the dissent but it seems to be mostly about procedure so most of it made no sense.

Thomas’s draft dissent is just the sentence “I’m not going to be last picking Kayaks again!” over and over.

One Year in a Post-Roe America

Saturday marked a dark anniversary: One year after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the era of safe and legal abortion for American women.

That's right, that did happen on my birthday.

I had been warning people for weeks (months?), because of that leaked memo that had happened earlier, and people were like, "huh? what are you talking about?"

And then on the actual day, we went to the city to celebrate. I was riding the train, tying one on, and my phone started blowing up that abortion was over, and I was like NO! I'm not doing this today! I have been warning you bitches for ages and you ignored me. Today I'm just here to party.

I console myself with the idea that when we do eventually turn into Gilead, my birthday will be a national holiday. Me and all the January 6 babies will be in great shape.
