I don't particularly like the Demi for leader thing. Yeah, she's a solid player, but I haven't noticed anything particularly pro-town she's done yet. Guys, take a serious think about whether she's really the best option.

To exapnd on that - we went from OMG this leader vote is important to rule 1 is you don't talk about the leader vote. At least one vote was just a vote for the leading contender just to stop people talking about it. Now I'm down with the reasoning that talking about specific candidates has a risk, but let's not forget the first point either - that the leader vote is important.

Reading Re: LotR Mafia - Game Thread

Though I am a bit :glare: at Nightson for voting without explaining, he does seem to be searching for the Nazgul in our midst. As I read that early post I simply took it as good speculation on who could or could not be desirous of the power of either the mayorship or, Illuvatar help us, the Ring. I admit to having my own speculations and suspicions of him, which I voiced in as gentle a manner as I could.

What does Kael gain by having sought to see beneath Nightson's glimmer? He has now made both himself and Nightson a target for the darkness which we fight. Who might he be if he is a traitor to the Fellowship?

The creature Gollum who would seek the Ring, not to rule but simply to have for all time?

The wizard of Isengard who seeks knowledge and order over all of Middle Earth?

The warrior Boromir who would use the Ring to defeat He Who Shan't Be Named? But need I tell anyone the fate of any Man who holds the Ring for any time.

None of which seem to apply to Kael or Nightson at this time.

This is, I should point out, assuming that the Nazgul itself wouldn't want to trick us Hobbits into electing it our leader for a bit of double dipping in our pockets.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. How has Kael made himself a target of the nazgul? And are you suggesting that it's not likely there is a traitor who wins with the nazgul, rather that any putative traitor is in it for themselves? And why would you assume that nazgul wouldn't be trying to become leader?

I agree with fragmenrt re: voting for Demi. You're basing this on previous games, not what she has said here. Which I'm doing too, voting for liv, but liv has been active and seemingly pro-town in this game. At this point I'm changing my vote over to Gonzo, if he promises to read every post before he posts. In this game he is analysing well and asking good questions.

unvote; vote Gonzo

Regarding those questions, he raised a really good one. Several of you, having read Nightson's posts went "OMG! I can't believe he just said that!" and are then surprised when someone else read the same thing. So you're punishing Kael for pointing out something that was obvious to all of you. AND PRESUMABLY ANY SCUM WHO MAY BE PLAYING THE GAME. I didn't see it and I didn't make any connection but some of you did. Enough to tell that it wasn't as subtle as Nightson may have thought. Although he is saying that there was no hidden messages in it.

I don't know. I read that and moved on. It seemed obvious without actually pointing to Nightson as a special. I also note that I'm voting for him so;

unvote.

Just for the record I don't particularly think Kael is scum at this point.

I'm going to reread later tonight to see if there's and scum tells I missed first time through.

Here's what I saw.

Kael:

:loud:

Maybe I'm reading too much into it... but it's still the biggest thing I have to go on right now. BrotherMan's possible slip being a distant second.

Are you a nazgul, Deadlokd? If so, you missed it and have just been given a massive heads up. Do you now see why we shouldn't talk about specials?

It seems like we shouldn't talk about anything in this game. Someone who says something may be a scum or a special but we'd better not draw attention to it just in case he or she is a special. We better not talk about who wants to be Mayor because anyone who doesn't want to be must be a special, or just not gaf.

 You know that still leaves plenty we could talk about, like who votes to lynch for who and whether their reasons for it are solid. FWIW I think talking about the leadership vote was good when we had nothing else to talk about, but we've moved well past that and have plenty of other stuff to discuss. Like who do you think is most suspicious so far, Deadlokd?

Not an acceptable number. If you are currently not voting then do so.

I'm not sure anymore. I'm a little sus of BroMan, but not enough to point a firm finger, just a little gesture in his direction. I'm not sus of Kael because I haven't seen any deviation in his usual gameplay (OMG! Meta!). Gonzo seems really lucid. And everyone is is themselves.

I'm good with Demi for leader. Unless she's changed rather drastically from the last game, I feel like I can get a read on her.

Based on Adam's last count, and slim's vote, that puts me at eight, so yes.

Problem right now is, as Nightson pointed out, the lack of lynch votes. I don't care if they're hard suspects, I want to know what people are looking at. Back up your words with bold, folks.

It gives us something to work with.

I have no justification for that statement. I thought someone else had mentioned it with some reason behind it that made sense but looking back I can't find it. It just looks like Kael made a target of himself, which I can sympathize with.

I'm saying it is possible that there could be a traitor among us. And I've guessed at who (in-game terms) that traitor might be - I hope that only one of those listed above is a traitor or has a traitor's win condition that is independent of a Nazgul win. Given what I know of the story of Lord of the Rings their motivation(s) for wanting the Ring diverge with Sauron wanting to get the Ring. That's just what makes sense to me. Adamitar is a tricksie one, though.

We can all go round and round with what makes sense.

Why would a Nazgul want to be mayor? The obvious answer is to have extra pockets to search, of course. But this also paints a target on their back. As the bodies from lyncings and killings pile up and none of them are mayor one of us enterprising and capable Hobbits would surely watch what the Mayor does at night thus ending that terrible reign.

Why wouldn't a Nazgul want to be mayor? I would think it would be easier to remain hidden and thus harder to detect by either daytime lyncings or night time searching. They could remain free to kill as they wish at night and even then target our good Mayor should we sadly lynch one of our own.

The first is not without its merits but the second has my favor.

@typo.hoahead

I have a few questions as a follow up for fragment. I understand that one's first inclination would be a bit of OMGUS, but cooling off shouldn't necessarily result in a full 180. Otherwise I suppose we should catalogue "X is scum" as the open seasame of mafia lines. Scumhunting is important, but scum are only looking for the appearance of scumhunting. Voting without any reason could be looking for reactions. Or is could be a weak show of town support.

I have few strong suspects.
  • Chris Porter if only for the lack of posts to judge from.
  • wei yau for a similar reason - more posts than Chris but none of any Nazgul hunting substance.
  • I'm suspect of livius drusus. She wants to rifle through dead Hobbit pockets as well as rule us with her iron Proudfoot fist. She's said a lot but neither do I see any Nazgul hunting, only defending her right to rule.

Others are already prompting Chris Porter and we have time to suss out the drusus. I need to get someone else talking.

vote: wei yau

He has been very quiet. Too quiet, I say.
