Yesterday we were told to drive our work vehicles home and not to come to the office in the morning and evening.

Today, I stopped to eat lunch at a BBQ place and read that in a few hours (now passed) all restaurants were to be takeout only.

I have been sick off and on all Winter with some kind of harsh sinus pressure, occasionally turning to hot/cold flashes and dizzy spells (from inner ear pressure, I understand)

Today, I took my son's girlfriend to WalMart. The same one that got shut down for gunfire when we tried to go before. It was horrible. There were many, many older employees there, like in their 70s and 80s, and most of them looked terrified and beat down. The woman watching the self checkouts was wearing one of those half ski masks that cover your mouth. She was probably 70, and she looked shaky, and like she was about to cry.

I'm trying to cut down on outside interactions as much as possible, so I bought a ton of stuff in hopes it'll last at least a couple weeks. I'm not getting it there again, though. That was a fucking nightmare.

Other than that, I'm baking bread. Sourdough and regular yeast kinds. I made mustard and a huge batch of lotion and kimchi and cultured butter. I'm making chicken and garbage stock right now and will can it later. And I got oranges to make marmalade. I'll make pretzels too. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow. We still have plenty of bean soup I made the other day and I'll probably send some over to my bestie, maybe with a loaf of bread and some fresh butter. She eats at restaurants, like, a LOT, so this is pretty tough on her. Fortunately, I've been making enough food to share.

LOL it's supposed to snow later this week, too.

I'm an unemployed introvert with anxiety and burn-out issues, so social distancing so far... really not much different? Trying to keep shelves fully stocked rather than just haphazard shopping.

No reported cases unconnected with overseas travel here yet. But some reports suggest that tptb haven't been testing unless there is connection to travel or a known case, even when there are symptoms that potentially match, so staying put to reduce risk of contributing to spread seems wise.

I flew to Michigan last Tuesday because my mother's 87th birthday was Wednesday and we were going to have a party for her on Saturday. I did visit her a couple times but on Friday the consensus was that a big group of people around her was a Bad Idea[tm] so I came back to Austin Friday night. I'm also dealing with very mild, almost unnoticeable chest congestion and sore throat but despite the fact that I very often feel that way after abrupt climate change of going from TX>MI>TX in a week, I am fairly certain I have the plague.

the thing that bothers me most is the panic shopping. i know there are psychological reasons behind it, but what a depressing spectacle. it has left a lot of people hurting for supplies, like the poor and old. find the person who has the time, money and inclination to go overboard on groceries and you'll discover what's wrong with the world. at least it seems to have chilled out here a bit over the last couple of days.

i tried to stay clear when it was going on because the last thing you're supposed to do is get jammed in with people in large groups. the pandemic status that kicked the panic in high gear was announced on the 11th and i've been wondering if we will see a sudden spike in the next few days from people spreading it in the supermarkets? takes around 5 days for symptoms to show...

The hoarders totally weirded me out. I had no idea it was going on. Went in to the super to get the normal items in normal quantities, came out with almost none of it. The only thing I bought was squeeze jelly. I like jarred jam. It's that line from Men in Black.

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it.

But little Tiffany here? All alone in the ghetto with a quantum physics book? That subject matter is way over head. And I wish you'd ease up off my back about it. Or do I owe her parents an apology?

DAY 5: partner is off work, kid is off of school. Did taxes, a Zoom meeting (for pay) and house work.

There is no chocolate nor sweets anywhere in the house.

Very much ditto except currently employed. And moreover employed in a job that has been always been possible to do remotely (and some of my most frequent colleagues are in the US, and Brazil, and Hong Kong, and Russia). So all the memes about having trained for this? Check.

Monday, I started work at 7 AM and finished at approximately 10 PM (of that 15 hours, a skosh over 12 were billable). Phone calls, edit documents, discuss prior edits, do more edits.

Tuesday: more relaxed, as all of the documents were out being looked at by other folks. Prepped for a call this morning, and discussed changes to be made to another document. Our daughter (in Atlanta) paid for dinner for Mrs. S, me, and two of our kids, as a birthday present to Mrs. S and me (from one of her favorite restaurants). Son picked it up: fish & chips (Mrs. S), bangers & mash (me), corned beef and cabbage (son), lamb stew (daughter). (Apparently, operating on take-out only, they started running out of food.) Opened a very bad bottle of wine. Had some Montezuma's Absolute Black (100% cacao) with almonds & sea salt. Watched an episode of "Jonathan Creek" with Mrs. S and daughter. Felt headachy. Went to bed.

This morning: woke up feeling better. Having coffee and steeling myself to go start working on another document, before a call with accountants at 9.

Today has been clear and sunny, with temps in the 60s, so I decided to wash my sheets and dry them on the line before it starts snowing tomorrow.

And then, out of nowhere, I look up and there are clouds. Big ones. So I went out to assess, and they're everywhere, so I'm standing outside in front of the house looking at the sky saying what in tarnation because it really does seem like washing sheets causes rain.

And it wasn't until a few minutes later that I realized what had just happened.

My body temperature has been slightly elevated today. Less than 100 when I have checked, but still a little higher than normal. No respiratory symptoms so far. But still. Fucking great.

The irony.
The only extrovert in our immediate family is my sister-in-law, who has been in a Rehab/nursing facility since Christmas, and was planning to be home this week, but is now told the home is in lockdown due to on of the staff testing Positive. Nobody comes in, nobody goes out.

Uh, mine is just above 95 right now? It's normally in the mid-96 or low 97 range, so it's not THAT off for me, but what the hell?

I'm taking my temperature a lot more than usual and it fluctuates a lot.

Oh, no. I'm pretty far on the introvert side, so I'm better suited than most, but I know that's hard on a lot of people. I figure maybe they're feeling the way I would if I had to go to parties every day, and that would be awful. I hope she at least has people to hang out with inside.

The irony for me is that with everyone home all the time, social isolation involves more socializing than usual.

RIGHT? Like intellectually I knew that happened during the day but now it is freaking me out. 97.2...98.1...99.4 AM I DED...98.3...99.9 WAS I JUST OVULATING. Also it is possible that I have never taken my temperature more than once in a single day as a grown-up adult.

So after I started getting the elevated temperature today, I was like wtf why isn't the thermometer beeping like it usually does when it's finished. It would just sort of keep fluctuating up and down a bit. And then the battery died. So also possible those were not even real, damn it. I may yet survive.

If I had these symptoms any other time I would not even notice them, but now I must analyze each bodily sensation.
